EC: Varsity Swimming, Varsity Tennis, President National Honor Soceity, Editor-in-Chief of School paper, Volunteer 4 hours per week as an attorney at local youth court, writer Sun-Sentinel (newspaper for my area)

I think top colleges will like my growth throughout high school especially in academics. Also my EC list is not very long but it is concentrated around writing and law, which are two of my passions. Tell me what you all think and if I have a shot at any of the ivies?

Of course you do. You have taken a lot of AP classes, and have done extremely well in them. It looks to me though that you are a junior. How did you get your junior AP test scores back so quickly? I was told that they were not suppose to come out until July.

Also, they don't look at home many EC's you do-- it is quality, not quantity.

What is your GPA? I think you have a shot. Collegedata will give you this quiz thing and tell you your chances. I don't know how accurate it is tho.

looks like you could get in almost anywhere, depending on what your gpa is

i dont know if you would be a guarantee at ivies, but you could definitely get into some great schools like Northwestern, Emory, Rice, Georgetown etc.

1) GPA

2) race, location, what type of school( extremely competitive public, small private, etc.) + any hooks( URM, legacy, athlete, etc.)?

2) Essentially, all you've done is list your classes and while it is impressive that you have taken so many AP's, there are many, many other students who have taken just as many AP's and...I need to see more you and not AP this and AP that

3) What colleges are you applying to??! How can we possibly comment on anything if all you list are 'top schools'- which reflects a lack of sincerity and depth- are you looking to HYPS( I'm assuming which is bad, but hypthetically) because they are 'top' or have you actually researched majors and programs that colleges offer, internships, atmosphere, etc.,?

4) GPA!!

5) The concensus is that it is important to have a few EC's you are devoted to. Okay, you've done that. BUT you need to elaborate on them- what did you do? What was your role? Did you win any honors/awards? Basically, what's impressive about you? I don't see anything and that's not because you aren't- it's because you haven't presented yourself

6)SAT score- okay. Because you haven't given us a list of schools, we can't really figure in your sat score in context to the schools. For HYPS and other ivies, it's low. For UC Berkeley, it's a little above average. Give us context- we're not mind readers.

7) I couldn't figure out that your concentrated interests were writing and law until you wrote it and I went back and glanced over your EC's again. That's bad. It's all in presentation- look at Number 5!!

I disagree with scared4college's number 7. I think it's clear the OP likes writing (newspaper for school and writer for area newspaper good job!) and law (youth court). So i think he/she has got the EC's down.

GPA is arounda 4.9. I am not geographically from somewhere special, but I do go to a very competitive private school. And schools, I am not the type of kid who is going to apply to just HYPS, although if I got in, it would be hard to turn down. A dream school for me is Columbia or Penn because I love the area and I know a lot of people that go there and I like the people they select for their school.
