Indian national (INTERNATIONAL STUDENT) screw it :(

IM really sorry, new here, but here is my list

1) Caltech
2) MIT
3) Stanford

5) CMU
6) IIT (not the indian one hehe)
7) UC, Berkeley
8) Michigan Ann
9) UTA
10) Rice
11) Princeton

Tis official: 2210 SAT 1

bump, could I have some responses please??? I ll def. chance back!

Do you need FA? That might prove to the biggest determinant to entry in a lot of your schools in your case.

wow, gd profile there! i think you’re in for Caltech (do they allow EA for internationals?) and 50/50 for MIT :)

Nope No FA!! Im paying and thanks for the response guyz :D

and yes, there is EA for caltech for internationals unlike MIT

bump 10char please!!!

^^ Bump!!!

how come you’re full-paying? in that case i’d say

1) Caltech - in
2) MIT - 50/50
3) Stanford - 60/40
4) Gatech - in
5) CMU - in
6) IIT - in
7) UC, Berkeley - in
8) Michigan Ann - in
9) UTA - in
10) Rice - in
11) Princeton - 30/70

thanks for the response. My parent can afford it even though I think a scholarship should do fine. I will not be applying for FA to the unis, instead try to get a bonded scholarship from Singapore to pursue my studies abroad.

hmm you have to consider the merits and demerits of local scholarships then. but for most schools on your list, being able to pay will make you much more competitive among the international applicants :)

yea I think so too.

bump^^ 10char

calm down stop bumping every 3 seconds.

i think this thread is a little optimistic. these schools are veryy competitive even within the US and being an international student hurts you a lot. moreover, being ASIAN (or indian subcontinent, whatever) hurts you even MORE because you’re being compared with the pool of other amazing Asian people who will have similar, if not better stats.
your GPA and SAT scores are average, imo - altho your GPA might be really good for where you’re at, i’m not sure, just on a typical american scale it’d be average. your ECs are lengthy and impressive, so that should help…

1) Caltech: low reach
2) MIT: high reach
3) Stanford: very very very high reach
4) Gatech: in
5) CMU: in
6) IIT (not the indian one hehe): in? i have no idea
7) UC, Berkeley: they seem to not like to take lots of Asians out of state. so low reach.
8) Michigan Ann: low reach
9) UTA: in? i think…
10) Rice: in
11) Princeton: very high reach

fuzzyfirebuny, why is Stanford like very very very high reach? I thought Stanford is pretty ok at least for it’s engineering dept?

Stanford is just notoriously difficult to get in to. You can have perfect stats and great essays and still be rejected for whatever reason. If you don’t believe, go look at the results thread for the class of '09 for Stanford. It’s post after post of rejects :P

bump^^^^^^^^^
