the verbal is a killer, and i dont think your EC’s will be able to save you. Sorry but I’d say reject

I’m sorry, but I’d have to agree. Your scores are kind of low, and you don’t have any redeeming hook (URM, athletics, etc.). Your AP scores are a little low, too; 2 on chem? Reject, I think… sorry.

Following the theme of the above posters, I’d have to encourage you to look at several safety schools. You didn’t even earn a passing grade on AP Chemistry, and while your class rank is very good, your SATs and ACTs leave substantial room for improvement. Your research is cool, I’ll give you that.

While your ECs are interesting, so many applicants volunteer, are on math/academic teams, etc. that you don’t really stand out. The black belt is certainly interesting, but it’s only one part.

It really comes down to this- MIT has to admit kids it thinks are capable of handling the workload. Do you think your scores really make you stand out academically from the hordes of other applicants?

Of course, perhaps you write kick ass essays and get yourself accepted. However, I would really encourage you to make sure you have at least a few definite acceptances under your belt in the case that MIT decisions don’t go your way come March.

i dont think u can write kickass essays for this

Thanks for the input guys, but believe it or not I DID get ACCEPTED to CalTech…no joke, I was blown, my counselor, that Bitc*, said they MUST HAVE screwed up to admit me…

Anyway, since I got into caltech, I thought maybe I had a chance at MIT…

we’ll see, thanks again guys!

Then hey, what do we know? We’re just a bunched of bored high school seniors. Good luck. :)

WHATTF??? punch her in the face. some teachers/guidance counselors are like 9470582475 years behind…it used to be GPA+SATs could get u in…but if they didn’t notice, it’s been 9470582475 years later and essays and ECs are important now -_________________-

but wow! congrats!! and as an international applicant too (which we all know to be impossible)! you must’ve had killer essays or something =) caltech is a great school. (>MIT? doonnoo :O)

but if you could go to MIT if you got in…go ahead and apply, u mite have a chance. don’t listen to us…we don’t have a clue what we’re talking about :)

Oh, wow! Congrats! If you got into Caltech then there must be some aspect of your app that we aren’t seeing. Anyway, good luck with MIT, and if you don’t get in, no big deal. You have Caltech. Wow. =]

Well, he’s definitely not international, since internationals can’t apply to MIT EA

I’m not..I said in my post that I “lived in India for 11 years”…I live in the US now, so I can apply to MIT under EA, being that I go to HS here, and I was born here in Silver Spring…

btw, Narcissa, I totally felt like doing that too, at first she didn’t even believe me, so I had to show her my admission letter online…lol…you should have seen her face…:)

Well to be honest I’m also surprised you got into Caltech. A 2 on Chemistry and a 3 on Physics B?

I guess you must have some redeeming factor you are not posting, or perhaps your research is of a very high caliber (or perhaps I’m behind the times on how Caltech’s admissions work).

In any case, regardless of where you go, make sure you study a little extra the summer before to make sure you have a solid grasp of chemistry and physics. Otherwise these things tend to sneak up behind you and hit you where it hurts (like getting punched in the kidneys really hard).

Finally, as for MIT admissions, all I can say is hold your breath and make sure you have lots of safety’s.

Hm…Caltech does not post decisions online…

Not that I’m trying to falsify your statement, and if you indeed got into Caltech and will decide to go - it’s great. But, as differential correctly noticed, be sure to spend some time studying over the summer.

why? he already got into caltech…

lol good point narcissa! He did get into caltech.

Change safety’s to bandages. I hear Caltech is brutal :-).

To be terribly honest, I highly doubt you got into Caltech EA. 700 Math SAT? 750 IIC? 2 on AP Chem, 3 on AP Physics? These numbers would most likely get you rejected in the RD pile, let alone the EA pile. As Ben and others have stated many many times, if there’s any doubt that a student cannot succeed at Caltech, that student will not be admitted. And numbers like those are certainly signs you would have much trouble with the Caltech Core.

Vader/SP, take a deep breath. its me yoda… deepest sympathies for what you must be going through in your life…
…but falsehoods are not  and succumb to the dark side you must not
(… and please do not refer to women as female dogs:mad:)

how do you know the counselor wasn’t male? he could have been referring to a male as a female dog, which is even more insulting lol

but on a seriious note, to the OP, congrats on Caltech! you make me jealous :)

i am with mathwiz on this one! and include what Hriundeli said… “they don’t give decisions online…” (if you want to lie, at least do some research first)

and statistics show that people who doesn’t post chance threads got a higher rate of acceptance than those who do.

^^(about the chance threads part)… is that true?
