Hi everyone! Please chance me...I applied ED to Wharton and want to hear what other people think of my chances.

Essays are great according to who has read them (one focuses on a meal with my diverse ethnic family background and the other is where I talk openly about why I love Penn so much)

Not aware of any "hooks" I have -- will be applying for financial aid (and with my economic status hoping to get almost full aid)

Also, I have not gotten an interview. I don’t know if these are “hooks” but I would be a first generation college student, I live in the Philadelphia region and one of my parents is a first generation immigrant to the US. Thanks for your opinions.

It could go either way. If you were applying to CAS, you’d obviously have a better chance as Wharton is the tougher school to get into. Your GPA, rank, and ethnicity are the three big positive factors in your app. Your ACT is not horrible, but it’s on the low side. Because you are an URM, it might not be a huge deal… but I don’t know how forgiving Wharton will be… hopefully you took the math 2 subject test for Wharton to show off that you are a strong math student… Your AP scores are also low… which might make admissions officers question the rigor of your courses. They might wonder why your GPA/rank is so high and yet your ACT and APs are fairly low (low for Wharton, but still great! :)). Your ECs are solid but probably won’t be what gets you in.

Overall, I don’t think you have a great shot, but you certainly have a shot. Hopefully the admissions officers will find your essays powerful and hopefully your recs will be really good, (and hopefully you took math 2).

Anyways, best of luck! I hope you get in and I think you’ve got a chance!!! :)

I’m surprised you didn’t receive an interview yet since you live in the Philly area… maybe you’ll get a call in the next few days. Either way, I don’t think getting or not getting an interview will affect your chances much.

thanks for your help! I did not take the SAT II’s =[. I really want to go to Wharton but it makes me soooo sad that they are so much tougher than the CAS. My recs are good and my counselor’s is definitely the best one. I hope that they just judge me in the context of my high school (there is not a high percentage of those who even pass AP exams and I am in the 95th percentile of my school for my test scores).

what was your ACT math score
