First of all Happy Thanksgiving. Now lets get down to business. I'm applying EDII to NYU Steinhardt for Public Health, U Wash Seattle, Boston University, University of Vermont, Syracuse University, Franklin College, and am looking for some last minute suggestions for matches or low reaches based on my stats!

GPA: 3.4 weighted (upward trend, would be a 3.9 without the 1st semester of my freshman year, personal circumstances with legit explanation)
SAT: 2020 first time. 690 W/690 CR/640 M
ACT: 29 superscored
AP/Honors: 2 honors classes, 1 college dual enrollment class, 8 AP's throughout high school career with 5 my senior year and 2 4's and 1 5 on three tests taken.
Teacher/counselor recs: Excellent and personal
Essays: Writing is my greatest strength and they are highly personal and well thought out
EC's: This is where I shine, guys...

-Editor-in-chief of newspaper
-Co-captain of debate team, state qualifier 2/2 years
-Founding member of National Art Honor Society
-Peer mentor and tutor (lots of community service hours)
-Organized hygiene drive in my community for battered women's shelter
-Shadowing and canvassing for a Colorado senator whose emphasis in legislature is around public health and healthcare in general
-Volunteer for Project CURE, an organization who donates medical supplies to countries in need
-Internship with top Denver photographer
-Work approximately 15 hours a week as a waitress

Yeah. I think that's everything.

Anyways, thanks in advance, etc etc. I will be happy to chance back. Steinhardt is my priority. Anyone have any ideas on other schools I should apply to based on my stats?

The only college I know a bit about from the ones mentioned is NYU.
I feel you would be a strong candidate for that.
The others, I don’t know enough about to say.

In noting that you work a lot of hours as a waitress which not many wealthy kids do, I’m wondering if your family can afford $60,000 per year for NYU. If not, applying ED is a VERY bad idea! In fact, you probably won’t get good aid at any of these schools.

Actually, my family is pretty well off, I work because I like making my own money and want to buy my own things instead of having to rely on my parents. Also, I don’t want to be the kid in college who never worked a day in their lives and doesn’t know what it’s like to be independent.

I think you will be able to get into all of those schools. The only reason why you would get rejected by NYU is because of your 3.4 GPA, which shouldn’t be that much of a deal if you have an upward trend. ECs and tests scores look good.

Well given you have good explanation as you say for those first semester grades, everything else looks in check. Good AP scores and SAT score. You’re ECs are good as well. You definitely have a very good chance everywhere, NYU being the most difficult but I dont see why you wouldn’t get in.
