please chance me (finalizing college list)

Hi, I'm a Korean-American junior in a fairly very competitive school (many MANY in Ivies), and this isn't the first time I posted this. But some ECs and numbers have changed, as well as the list of schools, so I'm posting this again ^^. Any help would be appreciated. I pretty much cut down on all safeties and added all reaches (HIGH), so would that make me look bad in the eyes of the teachers/counselors? I'd like to cut down even more of the high reach schools, but I keep thinking - for whatever reason and chance, I get in?

GPA: 98.1 UW, 104 W

PSAT: 231 - semifinalist (doing the application now...as in like right now writing the essay and doing this at the same time ><)

SAT: 2400

SAT II: 770 Biology E, 800 Korean (will take more next year - Chemistry, Math II, and US History - hoping for all above 750?)

AP: sophomore year - European History 5
junior year - Calculus BC 5, US History 5, Biology 5, Statistics 5
senior year - Masterpieces, Physics B, Government, Macroeconomics, Spanish LL

E/Cs (main weaknesses):
~200 hours of community service in a hospital (clerical work - 2 summers only)
Math Team 10th grade, hopefully 12th grade
Science Olympiad 9, 10, 11, 12
Tri-M Music Honor Society - 9, 10, 11, 12 - Treasurer
All County violin - 9, 10 -- just once a year
LISFA (orchestra) - 9, 10 -- just once a year
School's rock orchestra - 9, 10, 11, 12
Habitat for Humanity - 10, 11 (treasurer), 12 (president)
Foreign Language Honor Society - 11, 12
National Honor Society - 11, 12
Columbia Science Honors Program - 11, 12 -- once a week
I'm going to be honest and say my essays and my recommendations won't be anywhere excellent...

Schools - again, I put only one safety. Is that bad? (I mean trying to look humble...but honestly I just don't want to do the work for safety/low-reach schools...)
Brown PLME ED
UChicago EA
MIT EA
Columbia
Cornell
Northwestern HPME
Dartmouth
Amherst
Harvard
Binghamton SUNY
Yale
NYU

Thanks again! And please tell me where I shouldn't bother applying - I really am bad at writing the supplemental essays so it'd be better to cut down...I think...?

Brown, MIT, Harvard, Yale - High Reach
Chicago, Columbia, Cornell - Low Reach
The rest are more or less matches. I’m sure you’ll do just fine though!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1000651-chances-rochester-some-ucs-stanford-caltech-uchicago-brown-cambridge.html

Thanks ^^. Is it normal to have four high reaches? Maybe I should cut it down to two and add two more safeties/matches. Honestly I don’t know where I match to, and my counselor doesn’t know either making this a bit hard for me…

Why?

Yes, for those applying to top schools. Since most top schools are reaches for everyone, those casting a wide net will have many reaches. But you should have matches and at least one safety that you would be happy attending. Of course, that point is moot if you get into one of your early schools.

Brown PLME ED - Reach, PLME very difficult to get into
UChicago EA - Low Reach
MIT EA - Reach
Columbia - Reach
Cornell - Low Reach
Northwestern HPME - Low Reach
Dartmouth - Reach
Amherst - Reach
Harvard - Reach
Binghamton SUNY - Safety
Yale - Reach
NYU - Match

screenname101- Amherst is def. a reach.

Amherst is a small LAC. Just wondering, why are you applying there? Everywhere else on your list are large, mostly urban unis.

Well my sister goes to Williams and she told me to apply to Amherst. I got rid of it from my current college list - Columbia was almost too small for me… I also got rid of JHU. Added Duke and Boston College tho? And am looking for match schools without essays ^^. I had that I have so many reaches, but I really don’t want to get rid of any of them because…what if there’s a miracle in ONE of those schools? I hope my counselor/teachers don’t think that I think I actually qualify for my reach schools…but it’s hard to say “Oh I’m just doing it for fun” when they’re writing your recommendations ><

Thanks very much ^^

Bump???..,

bump againnn
