oh and another thing.. i applied to columbia ED and got flat out rejected.. I was heartbroken at first but then realized I'd be just as happy at barnard. It's the school of my dreams.. and I'd do anything to go there.. I'm so nervous about it now though.. because of the rejection. I just don't know what to think.

here's the Barnard thread... http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/barnard-college/

I don't understand why in heaven's name one would apply to so many colleges when one can only attend one.

Your extracurriculars are very impressive, and excessive, though I'm wondering why your GPA and SAT scores are so low.

I'm applying to so many places because I'm so nervous about getting in anywhere because of my gpa and sats.
I know it sounds like an excuse.. but I'm a terrible test taker, and that's the truth. Just for multiple choice though. I'm terrible at it. No matter how much I study, I get nervous at the last minute and over-analyze. I know it's a common problem, but I dont know.
I know I'll be successful at any of the colleges that I'm applying to.. getting in is the problem though. My transcript and my scores are a huge downfall i know. but is there hope?

Barnard is the school of my dreams. Should i write to the dean of admissions? I just dont know what to do.

Of course there's hope.
If you're everything that you say you are, frankly, you are overqualified, and should not be worried at all :P

You have many "safety" schools.
You should consider more "reach" schools.

eskimo, if its any consolation, my daughter (Barnard sophomore) had SAT scores roughly similar to yours, a little better for CR/Writing, but worse on math. However, she had much higher GPA & class rank.... but her high school was NOT highly-rated anything and certainly not as rigorous as an IB program. My d. also has a 3.9 GPA at Barnard, so it is indeed possible to have problems with standardized tests and do just fine when you get to college. (Barnard/Columbia are NOT easy... my d. works hard for her grades -- but the point is that coming from a rigorous high school you shouldn't have a problem academically).

As to your chances: we don't know. I think you have a good range of colleges on your list and do not need to add more; you will know one way or another about Barnard in the spring so there is no point in stressing out before then. Columbia's rejection has nothing to do with Barnard-- statistically it is at least twice as hard to make the cut for Columbia, and Columbia is probably more numbers-oriented.

Based on your EC's & interests, you sound like an excellent "fit" for Barnard, so even though I can't tell you your chances, I am sure that the ad com will take a careful look at your application. And no, you don't need to write to the Dean of Admissions.... I think its rather obvious that you lead a busy life and that may, at times, impact your GPA.

thanks everyone for your input :)

anyone else out there?
