PLEASE chance me for Brown, Northwestern, etc! I will chance back

Hi,

This is actually my first time on this forum, but I saw some of the posts and obviously, it got me kind of worked up about college :P.

So here are my stats. Please honestly tell me what you think my chances are in getting into the schools I want to go to!

I'm a Chinese female. I lived in China for six years ( 5 years old - 11 years old), then moved to California. During my junior year, I switched high schools and now I'm in Boston, MA. My parents are divorced.

GPA: 3.91 unweighted/ 4.32 weighted
I'm not sure what my rank is compared to the school yet...

SAT I: 2300

SAT IIs: Math 770, Chinese 800, Biology E 720 (yeah...im probably gonna retake bio next year)

APs (haven't gotten my scores back, but I'm expecting 5s):
Chinese
Biology
BC Calculus
Physics C
Psychology

EC:

-Features editor and arts editor on an extremely rigorous newspaper. It is nationally ranked, and usually I stay after school for 3 hours working, not to mention many hours out side of school.

-I have written an article for the CSPA (Columbia Scholastic Press Association)

-I've played piano for 8 years. I also sing and play guitar (but I don't take lessons regularly). At a senior center I volunteer at, I play piano for the seniors every two weeks --around 60 hours so far

Member of softball team grades 9 & 10 (moved grade 11 before I could try out)

-I currently tutor a kid in Chinese. For the past three summers, I've been a camp counselor (for volunteer hours...totaling 200+)

For my AP biology project, I went to local elementary schools and taught the kids about animal endangerment (w. my own lesson plans)

Awards:
-Japanese award grades 9 & 10 (regional, awarded to 1-2 ppl in each class)

-Wellsely College book award grade 11

Colleges I need your opinion on:
Brown
Northwestern
UNC at Chapel Hill
Dartmouth
Johns Hopkins

Please tell me what you think! I will chance back.

UNC at Chapel Hill: In
Northwestern, Brown: Good Possibilty
Johns Hopkins and Dartmouth: With good scores and grades, these schools seem to look for something special. They look for something in a person that stands out from a normal application.
Good luck!

BUUUUMP please give me more feed back. i really need to know!

You’re a competitive candidate for the schools you are looking at. You do kind of sound like the typical Asian applicant – try to differentiate yourself in your essays, and good luck!

I think UNC and JHU are target, Northwestern is high target/low reach, and Dartmouth and Brown are reaches but you still definitely have a good chance. You seem really well-rounded, so I agree with welles10 - maybe try to emphasize one or two things in particular that you’re passionate about in your essay to stand out more.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736879-please-chance-me-upenn-wharton.html

Northwestern: I pretty good chance
Brown: high match/low reach
Dartmouth: low reach. Well actually I’m not that sure on this one because nobody from my school has ever got into dartmouth before (my school is SUPER competitive and many people go to Ivies), so I don’t have an idea of the acceptance rate etc.
Johns Hopkins: good chance

It will kind of be hard for you being Asian, no offense, so make your essays good!
This is what I think
Brown -Low reach
Northwestern - High match
UNC at Chapel Hill - match
Dartmouth - low reach.
Johns Hopkins - match

Check out like cornell and georgetown also. Make sure your grades stay good, and find some real safety schools.

chance back:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/733304-chance-schools.html

You have a great SAT score and a solid GPA, and your ECs are good but they dont really jump out. It seems to be a lot of volunteer/tutoring work, which is what the typical applicant will have too. I agree with everyone else- try to make yourself stand out in some way and you’ll be all set :)

Brown: reach
Northwestern: low reach
UNC at Chapel Hill: in
Dartmouth: reach
Johns Hopkins: low reach

Chance me back ifyou have time? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736548-chance-me-top-schools-ivies.html

Thanks for responding!

Do any of you guys know if moving from one school to another (half way across the country) & having lived in another country mean anything to the admissions officers?

You have a really good chance at all these schools as long as your essays and recs are on point. I don’t really see any areas of weakness but I also don’t see anything where I’m like WHOA.

JHU: match/in
UNC: in
Brown: low reach
Dartmouth: mid reach
Northwestern: low reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735819-i-cant-believe-im-actually-doing-but.html

Brown - Maybe
The others - I’d say definitely.

BTW, a 4.3 is awesome. Good job! =)

Please chance me:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735478-can-i-get-into-college-2-3-gpa.html

Brown-low reach
Northwestern-match
UNC at Chapel Hill-match
Dartmouth- low reach
Johns Hopkins-low reach

Own the essays, and you’re in :D

I would say in at Northwestern, UNC Chapel Hill, and Johns Hopkins. Brown and Dartmouth are a bit harder to predict, but it’s very possible you’d get in.

Northwestern - Very great chance
UNC - Very great chance
Johns Hopkins - Low Reach
Brown - Reach
Dartmouth - Reach

Chance me back please?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735950-please-chance-me-upenn-ed.html

You have a great chance at UNC, and a good possibility at JH and Northwestern. Brown and Dartmouth may prove to be exceptions, but with some more differentiated ECs and a stellar essay, I could see you getting in. Be sure to emphasize your work with the newspaper and continue your work with elementary schools if possible.
