GPA:...?
I have no idea how to convert IB grades into GPA(our school is full IB so we don't get any letter grades outside of our IB grades out of 7 for each of the 6 subjects, so in total out of 42)

My grades have been pretty bad the past couple years and I feel really bad but can anyone tell me where I would have a chance(preferably a private liberal arts college) or if I have a chance at Sarah Lawrence or Boston University? I was also thinking about Wesleyan, Kalamazoo, Rutgers, Ohio State, UMichigan, and NYU Tisch(acting).

Also I know Sarah Lawrence is SAT optional but since my grades are pretty bad, would it be wise to submit my SAT(after i retake after summer and improve my score)? What minimum SAT score should I be aiming for to have a good shot at Sarah Lawrence?

It's near the end of my Junior Year and I felt I haven't worked as hard as I wanted to so my grades so far have been pretty mediocre, I have one more end of year report coming out soon and then it's summer followed by Senior Year. So far my high school average grades are freshman: 62.5%, sophomore: 66.5%, junior: as of right now an average of 69% or 29 out of 42 IB marks. So averaging all that, my current high school average grade should be at about 66%.

I was wondering, since all my courses are IB courses, does that mean my GPA when weighted would be boosted higher?

My grades are as follows:

9th Grade:

Thanks!
P.S: I know all you guys on collegeconfidential are all straight A and perfect students so please don't be too harsh, just please give me some realistic suggestion schools and a realistic chance at Sarah Lawrence and BU.

oh and do I count as legacy at Boston University since my aunt(dad’s cousin) went there?

bump?
any feedback would be appreciated

Sarah Lawrence: low reach. I’d say get your SATs up to 1850+ or don’t bother submitting them.
Boston University: low reach
Wesleyan: high reach
Kalamazoo: don’t know
Rutgers: don’t know
Ohio State: don’t know
UMichigan: high reach
NYU Tisch (acting): don’t know

do you know of any other private liberal arts colleges that aren’t as selective and could be potential low reaches or matches for my grades/stats?

thanks!

And also, should I apply early decision to increase my chance or apply regular decision so my senior grades would be on my transcript and hopefully strengthen my app if I get my grades up?
And where do you think I have a better shot with if I do apply early decision? Sarah Lawrence or Wesleyan

bump please

I know a lot about Wesleyan as I am an alumnus and have a son there now. I don’t believe you would be competitive for Wesleyan. I would suggest you consider Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts as well as Hampshire College and possibly Providence and Fairfield.

“I know a lot about Wesleyan as I am an alumnus and have a son there now. I don’t believe you would be competitive for Wesleyan. I would suggest you consider Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts as well as Hampshire College and possibly Providence and Fairfield.”

So would clark, hampshire, providence and fairfield be matches for me according to my stats? How about Sarah Lawrence? And do you suggest any similar schools that could be considered as my safety?

“Sarah Lawrence: low reach. I’d say get your SATs up to 1850+ or don’t bother submitting them.
Boston University: low reach”

Does that mean if I get my SATs to above 1850 they’d be matches for me?

Thanks guys by the way!

oh and by the way there’s a typo in my grades section^ it’s actually 9th, 10th, and 11th grades not 9th, 10th and 10th… ooops

bump bump bump ?

Hey. My advice is, if you are an international student, then dont consider BU.
I’ve heard many cases if racial discrimination in that region.
In fact, one of my friends had to transfer out of the Univ.
But that was a couple of years ago… I hope you meet better people there, if you opt for it.
Good luck. :)

And try for colleges like Williams or Hampshire college.
My friend got in to Williams with a SAT score of 1680, but a killer essay.

oh okay, but look at my grades, Williams is way out of my league… do you think i’d have a shot at hampshire college though? I’m just trying to find a list of colleges that I could get into, my aunt went to BU and she said it was a pretty big school so it was fine in general.

The thing is my school only allows us to apply to 6 colleges, so I gotta choose wisely, or else I might apply to all the top schools and not get accepted anywhere  i’m working on my Extended Essay for IB and studying for the SAT’s over summer so hopefully i can raise my SAT score over 1800 and maybe raise my grades.

If i manage to do that I’m thinking maybe picking 2 out of Umichigan, NYU Tisch, Wesleyan, Cornell(yeah i know, impossible for me), kenyon, colgate or williams as my high reaches
and 2 matches or low reaches out of sarah lawrence, BU, purdue, hampshire, wheaton(Illinois), fairfield, providence, kalamazoo, syracuse, northeastern
and then 2 safety schools out of rutgers, ohio state and i don’t know where else could be considered a safety school for me…

See, don’t opt for Ivy leagues just for the ‘prestige’ stamp. That is the mistake International students mostly make. There are many good state colleges that you can opt for. Also, college is a holistic experience. So look for other deciding factors too, like the campus life, the student-teacher ratio, extra curricular’s that support your interest.

Sarah Lawrence you might get in. And Im pretty sure you’ll make it too Syracuse and providence. Cornell, Im sorry, is a bit out of your league.
As you can only apply to 6 colleges, I think you should go for:
1 dream college ( maybe cornell or michigan: The highly selective ones)
3 good colleges ( Like Wesleyan, NYU and Williams)
3 safe colleges (providence, Rutgers, Purdue)

Spend time on your SOP’s and rec’s. And if you are planning to give your SAT’s again, then you should work for it. If you want to know the average score for acceptance into different universities jsut log on to collegeboard and enter the university name and know all the details- from fees to campus life.

Good luck. :)

2 safe colleges *

would denison university be a match or reach for me?

bump bump bump
