Please chance me for Cal Poly SLO!

Major: animal science ( pre-vet)
GPA: 3.74
ACT: 27
Tons of EC and leadership
Applying early decision!

Cal Poly is my dream! I’ve wanted to go there since 8th grade!! Could someone please give me the honest truth about my chances?

I’m not in a position to offer an opinion on your chances, but here’s some data for you to consider:

Preliminary numbers show that for Freshmen entering Fall 2012, Cal Poly accepted 44.3% of College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences applicants (1,599 accepted/3,609 applied). The entering Freshmen had an average GPA of 3.72, ACT of 26, and SAT of 1179 (math and reading only).

Some majors are harder to get into than others. I don’t know where animal science stands; maybe someone knowledgeable can address that.

^ Sorry, link for Student Profile - Admissions didn’t show up. Here it is:

My son is a freshman Engineering major. See if you can find out on the website the percentage your major admitted last year, itll give you an idea. Last year’s overall freshman admission was around 25% of applicants, it’s becoming a very popular school. Youve done all you can do now so dont stress too much! Be sure to put any EC’s that even sound like they relate to your major field of study. Its great youre doing early admission, itll also get you your first choice in housing if you get admitted.
One thought, if its truly your dream school and by some chance you dont get in, go to Cuesta comm. college in SLO for a year or two, they are affiliated and its easy to get accepted and transfer from there. You can find out more when the time comes…best of luck, its an incredible place and a great goal to have.

Although Cal Poly is getting more popular and selective, the overall acceptance rate is not 25% (yet). For Freshmen entering Fall 2012, the rate was 31.3% (11,549 accepted / 36,946 applied).

If I get into Pomona, but not SLO, can I do the same transfer thing I would do at the community college?

No transferring from a CSU or other state college decreases your chances of getting in. Coming from a CC are your best chances.
