PLEASE chance me for CAS!!!! will chance back!

Hey, so I'm a noob to this site, haha and I have to admit it is a little disheartening. When you measure yourself against the competition its brutal. Anyways I want to apply to two cuny schools: ccny and hunter. Also nyu, barnard, and pace I'm from texas so I'm doing unt, ut, also ou in oklahoma and mount holyoke in massachusetts.
Stats: african american girl, I attend a rigorous private school. I have a gpa of 3.4. (Low, I know)
SAT: 1850/ national achievent scholar for psat
ec: cello for 7 years, soloist in community functions, 1st chair in orchestra. poetry club, soccer for 3 years, vollyball for 2. I have also taken 4 years of spanish and am almost fluent. I shadowed em doctors at my local hospital for appx 36 hours total.
I also have over 400 hours of community service.
I REALLY want to go to nyu, but I know its a definite reach. Thx for reading if you did! :)

sorry i know i have colleges that are not in new york. Just disregard those.

SAT scores for NYU four year programs range from 1950-2230. The average GPA is an A-; which would be about 3.6-3.7. Unfortunately, you fall quite far below the low side of the averages for NYU.

Considering that you are from Texas, I’d have to say that it’d probably be better to apply to a school like UT Austin. However, if you’re really committed, you ought to really kill your essay. Also, I don’t know much about NYU’s policy on affirmative action, but that may of course help you

@ionbeam211 Honestly, UT is just under NYU in terms of competitiveness. My school does not rank like the million other public high schools in texas, so… and yes I am pretty sure im going to college in the city. I love it. Thanks so much for your imput though.
@NYU2013 i thought that the lower 50% at NYU for SAT was 1860? I know i still fall under for gpa. Wont my ec’s help at all as well as great recs and essays? Does NYU not look very holisticlally at apps?

Final bump bump

Did you apply for ED 1? If you really want to go to NYU, applying for early decision will help you pretty much I think. Since ED1 is over try ED2 or something. Your chances might increase… there’s a graph that shows gpa & SAT scores of students who got accepted, and there are people whose grades don’t meet the ideal but are accepted. You still do have a chance… but I would recommend you ED 2 if thats not over

Nope, NYU is too expensive for me to do ED. I might get more money somewhere else.

Remember that you can back out of ED if you can’t afford it. It’s basically a free get out free card.

Really?? My councilor never told me that!

Check this thing. Its kinda old but… NYU said that they do allow students to withdraw.
You should be sure to check though. The policies might have changed.
