Please Chance me for Cornell Hotel School- Will Chance Back!

Idk if this matters, but my high school has always been in the top 20 in the country. It sends about 20 kids to Cornell each year (I believe 30 or so are admitted though). It is not always the top 10% GPAs, though, as there is a competitive admissions process so everyone is always on their A-game. Also, my brother goes to Cornell Architecture and I've heard sibling legacy is quite important but idk how important. I want to apply ED to get the legacy bump and then send in my first quarter senior year grades (which will bring up my GPA). Unfortunately, there are a ton of super smart kids in my grade who literally take AP Physics their freshmen year so compared so some of my classmates I am not very impressive.

Unweighted/Weighted GPA:
Without senior year grades: 3.55/3.9
With senior year grades: 3.61/4.11

SAT: Most likely around a 2150, but it might go up
My APs: AP Biology, AP Macro/Micro, AP Psych, APUSH, AP Stat, AP Calc AB, AP Gov, and AP Lang
My school doesn't do rankings

ECs:
Historian (10), VP (11), VP(12) of GEMS
Yearbook all four years
Editor of the school newspaper all four years
Fencing Epee for two years
Debate all four years
Girls Scouts for five years
Internship at a non-profit for three summers
Internship at the Hyatt (front desk type stuff)
Internship at the Crowne Plaza (organizing carpools and such)

Awards:
National Merit Semifinalist
Several Spanish Awards (if it matters)
Silver and Gold Award in Girls Scouts
And a few of those random "Academic Excellence"
Won a couple debate tournaments, placed in a few others

Recs:
I feel pretty confident about my teacher recs, but my counselor isn't very on top of things/has been known to write average recs so idk how much this will impact me.

Interview:
When applying to private schools and internships, I am told I am a strong interviewer so I think my interview will go well. I've brushed up on all their programs and concentrations and such so that way I will know what I am talking about. Of course, I will not be over-confident or anything.

Please chance me I want to go to the hotel school so badly it's not even funny!

Cornell Hotel ED: Reach

I hope you like UNLV as a safety…

I think you have a faaaairly good chance, but it is still a reach because it’s Cornell.
But your APs, SAT, and EC’s are pretty good so that helps.
I’d say low-mid reach.
Chance me back?

I don’t usually post on chance me threads, but just want to bring it to your attention that sibling is not considered as legacy. You can work it into your essay(s), but there is no box for you to check off to say you are a legacy.

Your stats are competitive for Hotel, but not for other schools, especially since you have done hospitality internship.

Thank you for your input!

Oldfort, sibling legacies are called “secondary legacies” and seem to have some sort of affect.

<a href=“Legacies Make Up 15 Percent of Cornell Students | The Cornell Daily Sun”>http://cornellsun.com/blog/2013/10/15/legacies-make-up-15-percent-of-cornell-students/

Yes, it matters to Cornell, but there is no check box in the application, therefore you should try to work it into your essay. My younger daughter did exactly that and she was admitted ED.

Oh okay. Would it be wise to mention it in the interview or should I only put in the essay?

Why not both.

The Cornell Hotel School really looks at internships and experience, so your internships will be looked upon favorably! Of course it is still a reach, but I think you’d have a good chance, especially applying ED.
