I am an Asian male applying for CS in the listed CSU’s and every UC’s except Berkeley, Merced, and Riverside.

CSU GPA - 3.87
UW GPA - 3.5
W GPA - 4.22

ACT composite 28
new SAT 1240

Honors Classes : AP Chem, AP Calc BC, APUSH, WHAP, Honors Chem, Spanish 3 honors, AP Lang and composition, AP Stats, AP Computer Science, Analysis

I also have a downward trend in my GPA which might affect my chances.

I know the major I am applying in is very impacted so should I apply to another safety just in case?

Freshman admit rate with UC GPA of 3.80-4.19
UCB: 12%-Reach
UCLA: 14%-Reach
UCSD: 39%-Reach
UCSB: 49%-Low Reach
UCD: 52%- Low Reach
UCI: 57%- High Match
UCSC: 83%- Match
UCR: 90%- Match
UCM: 92%- Match

Realistically you should add UCR/UCSC or UCM to your list or you risk being shut out of all the UC’s. Average UC GPA for UCI CS is around 4.08.

UC’s are GPA focused and for CS you want to be at or above the averages. Downward grade trend will not help. Test scores are on the low side for many of the UC’s also.

CSULB/CPP/SDSU: Match
SLO: Reach (10% acceptance rate for CS-most difficult major to get an acceptance)

I would add CSU Fullerton and possibly SJSU to your list for Cal States.

Re Merced and Riverside, undergrad years will fly by, so don’t give up a UC degree due to location.

I think you’ll get into UCSC and either UCD, UCSB or UCI as well as SDSU, CSULB and CP Pomona.
