Princeton: Reach (Its always unpredicrable)
Duke: low match
Columbia: low reach

^Duke actually would be a low reach.

Haha I have the same SAT score as you  Alright anyways, here’s my take:

Your extracurriculars are really strong… lol I’m jealous  how did you managee to do so much?! dang.
Your GPA and rank are great, but your SAT score is on the lower end… but given everything else you have, I wouldn’t worry too much about that.

Like IvyLeagueFreak7 said, as with any of the Ivies, especially HYP, are always unpredictable, but given your resume I’d say Princeton is a reach.

for Duke, I’d say low reach or even match, and Columbia, low reach.

Lol at low match for Duke. Some people will be in for a shock come March.

I actually don’t know about this one… Your SAT score is kind of low for an Asian female and although your gpa is silly high, I don’t think your ECs are especially amazing. 200 hours isn’t a ton across 4 years of high school and you don’t have many “hard” ECs.

I say high reach for Columbia/Princeton, low reach for Duke.

Wow you have impressive stats! Great ECs and very high GPA. Although your SAT 1 is a tad low for an Asian, you will are definitely qualified for all the schools.

Princeton - Reach
Columbia - Low reach to Read
Duke - Low reach to High match

Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who has replied! I truly appreciate it.

I also forgot to mention the following:
I am a first-generation Chinese immigrant to the States; first in my family to go to school in America

My father has a PhD and MD from Beijing University (which is on par with HPY)

My school is a well-known feeder for Cornell
*On that note, what are my chances for Cornell? In the past few years, many students who go to my school and have been accepted into Cornell have had lower stats and EC’s than me.

I am a direct descendent of a famous Chinese poet and have always been interested in Chinese language and culture, which is reflected in a significant portion of my EC’s. Would that be considered unique as an essay topic?

Recently, I also helped a PhD student of Psychology with his thesis because he was an immigrant and needed help with his English

Nice resume- but just a random note here:

I’m not sure if a paid tutoring job could really be considered “volunteering”. Depending on the breakdown of your non-paid service, some colleges may consider you to have less than the 200+ that you claim.

Thanks for the head’s up.
Just to clarify: Those 200+ hours are certified and verified by my school district and appear on my transcript. I will also earn service hours over the summer and will have 300-350 by the time school starts.
Paid tutoring is not the same as volunteer tutoring. I privately tutor college students at the given rates. However, a great deal of my time is spent as a volunteer tutor at a countywide tutoring organization without charge.
Because I once lived under the poverty line and struggled in school to the point that teachers openly declared that I would never mount up to much, I always try to reach out to others who may be facing a similar situation. A lot of the younger children I work with have trouble grasping the English language and completing their homework because they are unfamiliar with the American education system. Students born in America who have attended school in the States since pre-school typically cannot understand how frightened and confused these immigrant children are. All of my volunteer tutoring is aimed at helping these kids begin to slowly assimilate to American culture and education. It may not seem like a “tough” extracurricular or even that worthwhile to some, but it is something to which I am wholly dedicated.
Thank you

Awesome! I’m glad the situation works out for you. I’m chinese as well, but I’ve had the luxury of language so far.

Also- your above reply sounds likes the makes of a potentially good essay :)

Good luck!

Thank you so much!
By the way, have you taken the AP Chinese or SAT II Chinese?

I actually plan on using the idea as my common app. My AP Lang teacher assigned a college essay as our final exam grade and told me that my story was compelling and endearing because it truly is personal to me.

I’m really sorry for bumping, but I’d like more opinions and advice.
Thank you

You have a very strong commitment to service with impressive leadership positions. With that as a central point of your application I think you have a good shot at all three of those schools, assuming you do well on your Bio SAT II. I would put Duke at a high match and Columbia/Princeton as reaches, because they are for pretty much everyone.

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1530950-coming-up-home-stretch-what-my-chances.html</a></p>

I would say duke no problem. Columbia and Princeton low reach only because with schools like that you can never really be sure. Im from NOVA too what school? Chance back please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/multiple-degree-programs/1528664-questions-about-plme-hpme-chances.html</a></p>

Very impressive grades, scores, and ECs. I think you have a really good potential essay topic, and it sounds like your recs will be awesome.

Cornell- Match/high match
Duke- High match/low reach
Columbia, Princeton- Reach, but they’re reaches for everyone. I think you have a better shot than most.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1529971-chance-northwestern-washu-columbia-ed-others-thanks.html</a></p>

Thank you for your advice and encouragement, everyone!
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it.

Duke: match
Columbia: low reach
Princeton: low reach

You have a good shot at Princeton and Columbia. However, they do reject ~94% of applicants, many of whom are well qualified like yourself. Nobody can ever be a lock for those schools. You should apply ED to them if they offer it to make your chances better. Duke should be no problem.

Here’s mine. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1525734-chance-me-umiami-any-merit-aid-will-chance-back-2.html#post16194897</a></p>

It’s interesting how some people think that Duke is a match for me and others think it is a reach.
In any case, thank you for your replies.
I would really appreciate it if others could offer their opinions as well.
Thanks again!

bumping. really sorry!
