Please Chance me for Duke :)

Hi! Please chance me for Duke 2023!

As of right now, I plan on applying ED to Duke. It is my top school by far.

I am a white female and my intended major is economics.

Classes Taken:

Freshman year: Honors Biology, Honors English, Honors Geometry, Honors World History, Spanish 2 (my school at the time didn’t offer honors) Electives- gym/ health (required) ceramics, intro to law.
Grades: All A’s and A+'s. I may have gotten one or two A-s but I don’t really remember.

Sophomore year: AP US History, Honors Algebra 2, Honors English, Honors Physics, Spanish 3 honors, Electives : gym (required) ceramics, internship with jewelry teacher where i ran the schools metals blog (took photos made posts etc)

Grades: All As/A+s, but one A- in APUSH. (Also I would like to note that my school only allowed one AP Class sophomore year.)

Junior Year: AP Micro Econ, AP English Language and Composition, AP United States Government and Politics (3 APs is pretty much the max at my school for junior year. I know that my number of APs is low in comparison to other applicants but despite the fact that I have gotten straight As throughout high school my guidance counselor was encouraging me to take less APs and I ignored his advice so I definitely challenged myself as much as I could).
Grades: All As/A+s

Senior Year (Classes will start in Fall): AP Macro Economics independent study (only student in my school taking this course), AP Spanish Language, AP Calc AB, AP Stats, AP Psychology, Honors International Relations, Dual Enrollment Oceanography.

Also, I am currently taking English comp 2 at my local community college to fulfill my final english credit so that I am able to take two math courses this year.

Stats:

GPA: 4.5 (I don’t know my unweighted)

Rank: 7 out of over 250 (I know that rank isn’t a huge factor, but my rank was hurt by the fact that I transferred high schools so that I could have more opportunities and be challenged more academically. My first high school did not offer as many honors courses for freshmen as my current high school does so my rank has suffered.)

SAT: 1510
770 Math
740 Reading/Writing

6/6/6 Essay. I am taking SATS for the last time in August and my goal score is a 1560 or 1570 with an 800 on math. I am also going to try to improve my essay score, but it may be difficult because I have gotten the same essay score twice.

SAT Subject Tests:

720 US History
730 Math 1
710 Math 2

(There was a large conflict on the day that I took math 1 and 2 that caused me to be very stressed and I did not finish either test. I am taking both tests again in addition to English and my goal is to get an 800 on math 2 because math is one of my strongest subjects.)

AP Scores:
APUSH: 5
AP Lang: 5
AP Micro Econ: 5
AP Gov: 5

Extracurriculars:

President of NHS
4 Years on varsity XC
3 Years of varsity track (took a year off due to health issues)
Math Club
Animal Welfare Club
Mock Trial (My team was ranked in the top 16 out of over 150 teams in MA and I had multiple roles as an attorney in all trials).
Currently I am interning for a lawyer helping her with a research paper about the narrow definition of domestic violence in MA. Our ultimate goal is to draft a bill that will broaden the definition.
Participated in a science/invention competition and my team of 3 won our region and advanced to states.
I work at a cafe and delivering food to local children in need (summer program that replaces the free lunch program).

Community Service:
Over 200 hours with my local family pantry. I have been volunteering since sophomore year and this year I founded a program that entertains children while their parents are being helped at the pantry. The program has proven to be very successful. I lead the program and a group of volunteers that I recruited.

Also, I have applied to replace the pantry’s youth coordinator on the Board of Directors who just graduated and I am likely to get the position.

Awards:
Community Service Award
George Washington Book Award
National AP Scholar
Academic Excellence Award
Silver Medalist on the National Spanish Exam

That’s all I can think of! I know it’s a lot and I’m sorry that I did a lot of explaining but I want to give you guys a lot of context so you have plenty of information to work with. Thanks so much in advance!

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are good. Write amazing essays and you could get accepted to Duke ED or any other school of a similar caliber

Thanks so much! My small amount of APs and poor subject tests worry me the most. How much do you think this will affect my application? I do plan on getting my subject tests up.

I would not worry about the number of AP’s you have. My daughter is an incoming freshman in Pratt and she only had 6 total AP classes. Make sure to make yourself stand out in your essays, because they really do read them.

Thanks hopewhite25! That is really good to hear!
