Please chance me for... (I chance back!)

Hi! Anyone mind chancing me for these colleges? Sorted by my perception of how difficult they'll be to get into.

Princeton (Father attended, I plan on applying merely on the off-chance)
Northwestern (aunt attended, I plan on applying merely on the off-chance since we get a ton of applicants there from my area)
Tufts
Carnegie Mellon
Wellesley (Early decision)
Haverford
University of Chicago(father attended for medical school, early action)
Bryn Mawr (Apparently I live in an area that they never get applicants from, according to my college counselor)
Case Western
UW-Madison (In-state, "feeder" school)

GPA:
So my GPA is a strange story. I attended an extremely difficult private school my freshman year, which did not offer honors classes. I then switched into a public school which weights honors classes. So on my transcript it appears like I got mediocre grades in regular classes, pulling my GPA down farther than it should be. Apparently it somehow also affects my unweighted GPA (my counselor explained why, I don't entirely understand why). Either way, this is an inaccurate reflection of my academic performance and my counselor is writing a letter to each college I apply to explaining the situation. According to her, without this error I should be in the top 20% of my class.

Unweighted: 3.4
Weighted: 3.9

I have also led a creative writing website where teenagers can connect and improve each other's work since I was ten and plan on writing an essay on the experience.

I'm pretty sure I'm missing some stuff on here, I'll go back and add it...

Thanks so much for your input! I'll chance back!

Three additional things:

I’m an excellent essay writer. :)

Students Modeling a Research Topic is a local program that matches “teams” from high schools in the area to mentors at the Medical College of Wisconsin. These mentors are researching a specific protein. We learn about the protein in detail, its possible uses/effects, write a formal abstract, construct a model using a rapid prototyping machine and 3D modeling software called RasMol, and construct a formal research poster. The program is meant to introduce high schoolers to how the research community. My first year, when the group was still small, I was a leading member. We studied the how an influenza peptide is complexed, and binds to TCR. The second year, the poster was entirely my responsibility (it’s my baby. <3) and we studied the protein FOXD3, which is involved in keeping stem cells pluripotent.

Haha, I’m sure you didn’t need to know the specifics- just wanted to get across that even though the name is ridiculous, the program is definitely sound.

I’m also a minority.

Me too :). Maybe we know each other.

And to clarify, without the error you’d be in the top 20% (not top 10%) of your class? Unfortunately, schools like Princeton and Northwestern will expect top 10%. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding…

Yes, I would. I realize that Princeton and Northwestern are way out of my range; however, I’m just applying on the off-chance because I have some legacy connections there. I don’t quite expect to get in.

Haha, that’s so cool! I loved that program. :)

Yeah good EC’s and obv. good EC’s. Though SAT’s should be like 2100-2200+ for Princeton, which shouldn’t be THAT bad for you thanks to your dad, and same with UofChicago (well maybe, I know that Princeton is really nice with legacies.

for your gpa, well, that’s low. But get a guidance counselour recommendation explaining your situation and how how you’ve done so well after it all, etc.

But yeah, you have the makings.

Thanks, that’s good to know. How about Wellesley and UChicago? Those are my top two choices right now.

I don’t know too much about Wellesley admissions but if you can write an essay that stands out for UChicago, you should stand a very good chance given your ECs. Of course legacy doesn’t hurt either.

Princeton will be tough, because of the GPA and SAT
You might have a higher change at Chicago
Northerwestern and Tufts are a reach
Tufts

Low Reach
Carnegie Mellon

Match
Wellesley (Early decision)
Haverford

Bryn Mawr ???

Safe
Case Western
UW-Madison (In-state, “feeder” school)

Chance back?
