Please Chance Me For Ivies!

Im currently a rising junior, and college applications are already on the horizon. Its truly terrifying. However, i was hoping some of you guys could tell me if i really stand much of a chance applying to some of these schools. I know there's really not any safety schools, in fact, there's mostly reaches! So if anyone can recommend some decent safeties i'd appreciate it! I'm interested in Law and Business, so im thinking about majoring in something related to Business Law. One thing i have to mention is that my gpa isnt as high as it should be because i had a horrible freshman year; i was totally overwhelmed by some of the more difficult classes and thus, ended up with 3.5 uw, 3.83 w gpa, in addition to not doing many EC's. After that, i really got my act together and started getting very high grades and got much more involved in EC's. Please chance me for the following schools:

Harvard
Columbia (probably ED, has been my dream school for a while! I'll apply to Columbia College)
UPenn (Applying to Wharton)
Brown
Princeton
Stanford
Georgetown
NYU (Stern, Dad's a Stern Legacy)
University of Chicago
Tufts
Williams
Swarthmore

Jobs:

I do consider myself very well rounded, but my problem with EC's is this: Im good at what i do, but im not nationally ranked for these EC's. I enjoy everyone of them, but im no recruited athlete, professional musician, or competition winning speaker. However, i think colleges will like that i use my talents (swimming, guitar) to help others. Anyways i hope you guys can help and tell me my chances to these schools that im dying to be accepted to! I'll try to chance back!

10th - 4.05 UW GPA? 4.25 W GPA? What AP classes have you already taken? What did you do during your other summers? Which SAT II’s did you take? Any awards?

Get some match schools bro

@Kieran I was able to get 1 A- 5 A’s, and 2 A+'s during sophmore year so it basically became all A’s with 1 A+ which became 4.05 (A+ is 4.33 unweighted, so it added like .05 to the 4.0 average achieved with the 6 A’s. I took Ap Composition (Eng), APUSH, AP Bio, Ap Econ, and AP stats junior year. our sport teams suck so we don’t make it very far, my fbla cant go to competitions because of interfering testings, and debate awards are pretty minor, so nothing really impressive.

@bsmd11 any schools you recommend? I know most of these schools are reaches but dont you think at least Tufts, NYU, and U of Chicago are matches? I might not have perfect scores and a list of national awards but i think that i at least meet those schools standards right?

sorry, but those schools are not matches, they are still reaches for you :frowning: but don’t be deterred, i am sure you can get into at least one of these, but having some matches wouldn’t hurt  good luck

Don’t interpret this as arrogance, but what is holding me back from some of these scools? I can see how maybe some of the top LAC’S (Williams+Swarthmore) and the ivies are reaches, but what is it that i am lacking that would cause stern and u chicago from being matches? I think my sat is good, and my EC’s are pretty good. Is it my 3.85 uw gpa or are my ec’s too weak? i’d like to know because i still have a decent couple of months to improve :)

I dont think its anything personal, UChicago and Stern are basically reaches for everyone :/

Uh, nope on most of these. Asian male in a competitive region with no national recognition… lol, forget about it.

Sorry, but in terms of ec’s you don’t stand out. or grades. or test scores. (Sorry if that was harsh, but when applying to top schools, it’s unfortunately true…) My guess is that unless you really pursue one or two things and own up at them, all the schools you listed won’t be too easy for you to get into… try to focus on something and be really good at it, that’s all I can say. lol. Especially as an asian male. Hope I didn’t come across as too harsh, but I just want to be realistic.

Wanna chance me back, even after my mean reply? :/

lol u guys were harsh on this one :P. Average chances IMO, all depnds on essays. And U Chicago and Stern aren’t really matches for anyone…

Solid chances at NYU and Tufts.

All other colleges on your list are reach schools.

You need to have some Asian friendly universities and LACs on your list.

Vanderbilt: No essay, Asian friendly
Wash U: No essay, better chances if you do not apply for FA
Notre Dame: Asian Friendly
Dartmouth: No essay
Middlebury College: No essay, Asian friendly
Carleton College: Asian Friendly

just change the wording in ur essay to make urself look good ;)
