Going into one of these top schools has always been my dream. But do I have any real chance of being admitted with this kind of extracurriculars and GPA? If my essay is amazing, will I get in?

GPA: 3.8 UW ( took 9 APs total )
SAT: 2280

4 year varsity water polo, 2 years varsity captain
3 consecutive years of making the ODP (olympic development program),
2 years of making ODP selection camp
100 + hours of tutoring
junior coach at recreational water polo club in the summer
2 year varsity swim team

...and that's about it. Chances?

sorry forgot to add the ivys im aiming for.
Brown, Princeton,
Harvard, Columbia, and Cornell

Are you planning on being recruited? If so, then you have pretty decent chances.

If not, then I would try to take the SAT IIs and work on another EC besides athletics.

Yes, I do hope to get recruited. :)

Thank you for your input, but I was wondering, is it what kind of extracurriculars should
I try to be involved in?
Should it be water polo related, or should I broaden my field of interest?

The reason I am hesitant about broadening my field of interest is because it might make me come off as one of those type that solely do things to strengthen their college application… and that might hurt me in the admissions process. Whereas, on the other hand, I really do love water polo and only participate in water polo related extracurriculars for my love of the sport.
Should I still pursue other interests? What do you guys think?

Top tier colleges look for leadership in both athletic and intellectual areas. Establishing a club, organization, or team is considered very strong. What were your AP/SAT2 scores? Also, is that your superscore or did you only take the SAT once so far? I think that your GPA and SAT are up to par.

I only took the SAT once, so no, that is not my superscore.
For APs, I scored all 5 except for 4 in AP World, APUSH, and AP Chemistry.
So far, for SAT2, I had 740 for Biology M, 800 for Math II, and 720 for World History.
For the intellectual extracurriculars that you recommended, is it enough to just be a participant in one of those clubs or organizations? Or is it strongly recommended for me to be the founder/president?

You don’t have to participate in them at all if it’s not what you’re interested in. It’s a common misconception that joining every club in the school is a good thing. I don’t see how being the president of the key club will help your application. You already have some of the strongest EC’s I’ve seen on here.

bump… I will be glad to hear other opinions or suggestions.

Athletics usually are very good, those that are really strong in athletics make up an entirely separate applicant pool at some schools. Good luck!

Columbia and Cornell have no varsity water polo.
I am not sure they have a club team. But do club teams recruit, too?
I guess which zone you are from matters.
If you made ODP NTSC from one of the weak zones, well…
