Please Chance Me for LSA!?

In state
I have a 3.92 UW GPA (my school doesn’t weight AP classes)
My 2 SAT scores are: 1280 (690 CR 590 M 18/24 Essay) and 1250 (660 CR 590 M 21/24 Essay) (Equivalent to a 27 and 26)
APs: US History + Lang: 4 Government: 5
Classes: In my school, underclassmen aren’t typically allowed to take AP classes, and honors/IB is not offered. However I did take Spanish for 4 years beginning in 8th grade and ending my junior year. My junior year I took the 3 APs listed above. Senior year I am taking AP World History, AP Human Geography, AP English Lit, Precalculus (one of the hardest classes offered in my school), Chemistry, Art 1, and Yearbook.
I am thinking I am in the top 10%-20% of my class (However, if APs were weighted, I would most likely be in the top 5%-10%)

My extracurricular activities are:
Tutoring in Spanish
Model UN (Junior Secretary General)
Gay Straight Alliance (Vice President)
A local community service club (Co-leader)
Foreign Exchange
National Honor Society
Working part-time as a lab technician
Piano and Voice
Political volunteering/canvassing

I am the daughter of Ethiopian immigrants (so a black female)

My Common App essay was okay, my UMich community essay was (in opinion) pretty good, and my ‘Why’ essay was pretty good, but not as good as my community essay.

My letter of recommendation is really good (written by my favorite teacher)

Thank you very much!!

yea you’ll get in. GPA is much more important than SAT score; diversity is important.

Sorry to bump

Oh I forgot to mention that for my essays I wrote about political canvassing for Common App and my Ethiopian community (I related it to cuisine). I also declared interest in the political science and Philosphy, Politics, and Economics majors

Your gpa is strong, but your SAT is very weak for UMich.

Black and female won’t help you…but if you’re a first generation college student, that would help you a lot, particularly if your family income is middle class or lower.

Being in state will help you a lot.

I would like to see some math and science AP classes…the academic rigor of your transcript will matter. If your school doesn’t offer AP math and science, that will help you.

Using the calculator on this site http://www.prepscholar.com/sat/s/colleges/University-of-Michigan-admission-requirements Based on your GPA and SAT, they put your admission chances at about 17%

I think your chances are higher because you’re in state, and would be even higher if you’re first-generation.

But my best guess is that your chances are around 25% with the incredibly brutal competition UMich applicants now experience.

Best wishes, and good luck! Let us know.

@arock456 @MaryGJ Thank you very much for your input! I appreciate the honesty!

Will cross my fingers for you.

@MaryGJ @arock456 I got in!!! :slight_smile:
