<p>I’m an out of state resident who plans to apply early decision to Cal Poly SLO. What are my chances for mechanical engineering?</p>

ACT: 28
SAT: 1260 (I know this is low for engineering)</p>

<p>GPA is OK – right in there. However, I would seriously work on the ACT even though a 28 is still acceptable. By the way, the school prefers the ACT over the SAT as stated on their web site for prospective students. Although they will take both. As an out of state you may have an edge.</p>
<p>We hired a qualified tutor and his ACT score rose dramatically. We did not even bother to submit his SAT.</p>
