Please, chance me for MIT, Caltech, UC Berkeley, GTech....

Thank you so much in advance to all of you who leave a comment! I appreciate it immensely
Intended Major: Chemical Engineering
Info about me:
Hispanic female from Colombia. I came to the US a little over 5 years ago (if that matters at all). I speak 4 languages English, Spanish, Italian and French (self-taught). I attend a fairly large public high school.
Home State: Rhode Island
Income Bracket: 30k…single parent home
UW GPA: 3.98
W GPA: 5.45 (Regular classes at my school are worth 4.3, Honors are worth 5.05, and AP are worth 5.75)
Academics:
Note*: I am by no means bragging, but all the classes I took were either the hardest available or, even more, advanced. I took college classes and online classes to be ahead. Sophomore year all my classes were with upperclassmen. I never let the fact that English was my second language impede my academic success in English. In short, I think I took advantage to all opportunities available to me.
Rank: 1/258

AP Classes and (score): AP US History(5), AP Biology (4), AP Chemistry(5), AP Calculus AB(5), AP Calculus BC(5), AP Italian Language and Culture(5), AP Psychology(?), AP English Language and Composition(5), AP English Literature and Composition(?), AP Physics 1(5), AP Physics 2(5)
Freshman year we were not allowed to take AP classes, but I took Honors. Sophomore year I took the only AP available which is AP US History. Junior and Senior Year I took all AP and PE. Senior year I took two college classes for language and mathematics.
If I had to grade the rigor of my course load it’s 10/10. (No arrogance intended)
SAT: 2380 (CR:800, M:800, W:780)
SAT II:
-Math II:800
-Chemistry: 800
-Biology E: 800
-Biology M: 780
-Physics: 760
-Italian: 800
-Literature:780
I swear I am not crazy and sending all of these scores. All of the schools I applied to required certain subjects and some accept all scores. I sent different combinations to different schools.
ECs:
-Academic Decathlon President (4 years)
-Debate Team President (4 years)
-Science Olympiad (4 years) I invested over 10 hours a week studying and taking part in this activity.
-Math Team (3 years) top scorer all 3 years
-Creative Writing (4 years)
-Class President (4 years) this is one of the activities which I invested myself 110%. I think I am able to say that I made a decent impact as Class President.
-National Honors Society
-JV Tennis (3 years)
I am aware these are no very impressive and that I am lacking in the sports area, but I focused my time and efforts into activities which interested me. They might not be 1000 ECs, but I truly committed to them. Do you guys think the fact that I only did tennis will hurt me, plus I wasn’t exactly MVP?
Awards:
-Honors with Distinction (all semesters)
-AP Scholar
-AP Scholar with Honor
-AP Scholar with Distinction
-National AP Scholar
(I have 4 academic letters, but I don’t see where those play in)
-Science Olympiad State winner for 3 years in 2 events
-Top State Scorer (Math Team)
-Achievement Award in Writing
-National Merit Finalist
Again I know I don’t have any crazy recognition. How much could that hurt my chances of acceptance? Does it put me at a great disadvantage?
Volunteering: 200+ tutoring younger kids (all subjects) at a Community Center (9th-12th)
Recommendations:
-Biology and Science Olympiad mentor 10/10. I went above and beyond in her class and developed a close bond with her.
-English teacher (Junior Year)- Hopefully great. She mentions how I was the best of my class despite the language barrier. 9/10
-Calculus AB teacher- 9.5/10
Guidance Counselor: 9/10. My school is fairly large she doesn’t know me like some teachers o, but still spoke well of me.
LASTLY, in my essay, I spoke of moving to the US and adapting. Mentioned the domestic violence occurring at my house and how learning was my sanctuary and, later on, became my world. (Not as cliche as it sounds). I had 3 English teachers review it and edited accordingly. Certain schools asked questions and had other additional essays which I feel I answered to the best of my ability.

Schools I applied to:
-MIT
-Caltech
-UC Berkeley
-GA Tech
-Stanford
-Cornell
-Brown
-Michigan Ann Arbor
-Rice University
I am praying I am accepted to any of these, MIT being my dream school. What do you think my chances are? Am I even competitive enough for these schools?I have 2 safeties which I did not mention as well.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving me your opinion. Feel free to comment on any aspect of the information I shared. I will be sure to CHANCE BACK!

If there’s 258 in you class, your HS is not fairly large. But anyway, you appear to be a competitive applicant with hooks so I would think you’ll be looking at some acceptances on your list. Make sure you have some safeties though. Good luck!

Did you apply early anywhere? If not, why not.

SERIOUSLY I WISH I WAS YOU. I wish I was everyone on this website, gosh. You’re amazing, truly. All the best!!!

Thank you! Haha and you are right it’s not large. I just viewed it that way since most schools near me are smaller. I appreciate the correction

I did not apply early too any schools :frowning:

@Intense You’re in. Your minority status + 2380 is like guaranteed as long as you don’t get expelled lol

Honestly, you’re in for all them. Your stats look amazing.

Thank you and hopefully, you guys are correct!

@IntenseSally Update this thread when the acceptance letters start flying in!

You’ll get in, but you may want to take Berkeley off of your list: no financial aid for OOS students. If you win National Merit, you’ll get $2500 per year to attend Berkeley. Your annual tuition would be $55K per year.

Caltech would admit you but their aid packages are need based and they determine your need. It would probably not be a full ride; California state grants and scholarships could not be used because you are a non-resident.

Check all of the net price calculators to estimate your costs.

I will be sure to update! @neoking . Also, @auntbea thank you for informing me of the economic aspect because that is a major factor I will consider. It looks like my opportunities are narrowing down :frowning:

You’re a very competitive applicant, but it’s impossible to say “you’re in” with any level of certainty for MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Cornell, and Brown, and, to a lesser extent, Rice. All of those schools turn away a TON of overqualified applicants, so I think you’ll probably get into at least one of them, but getting into all is nearly impossible.

And I’ll just add, good work! I wish I had your stats.
