Freshman Year:
Mostly Honors classes and a couple standard (all A´s 95 and up)
Sophomore Year:
Honors and 1 AP: AP World (92)
Junior Year:
2 Honors and 5 AP: AP Micro (91), AP Macro (92), AP English Language (93), AP Psych (92), APUSH (91),
Honors Chem (97), Pre-Cal Honors (86)
Why I am worried is because I have made all A´s in high school except one B in pre-cal, and if NCSU engineering is only seeing that math class as a B, I am afraid I will be denied because I don´t think they will see my Senior year grades.
Senior Year:
1 Honors and 4 AP: AP Calc AB (currently 92), AP Physics (currently 90), AP Biology (Currently 90).
AP English Literature (Currently 94), Honors Spanish III (currently 98)
EC:
Work Part time at Pinehurst Resort for pay, NHS, Senior Class Vice President, Treasurer of Key Club, Amnesty International Club, S2S Club, 4 years of Varsity Lacrosse, Lots of volunteer hours.
Please chance me for NCSU engineering. Also if you feel I can´t get in, maybe throw me some suggestions on schools and other majors I should look into. I want to major in something math and science.
If you look at Section C9 of the NCSU Common Data Set, your ACT score is below the 25th percentile of last year’s enrolled students; your SAT composite score, while better, appears to be in the lower half of the median 50% of those enrolled students. There also seems to be a discrepancy between your GPA and your SAT/ACT scores; depending on how other members of your high school who applied to NCSU performed, this could be a “red flag” to the admissions office signalling grade inflation. What are your AP exam scores?.
If you look at Section C7 of the CDS, you seem to be below average or have potential problems in one or two areas that NCSU considers to be “very important” in the admissions decision. Based on what you have provided above, I think that your chances of admission are less than 50%, especially considering the likely credentials of other students who will be applying to study engineering. I’m not saying you won’t be admitted, just that in my opinion your chances are less than even; but only the admissions office knows for sure.
You might want to consider UNC-Charlotte for engineering; it has an RD application deadline of February 1.
Sadly, I am a very poor standardized test taker and that includes AP exams as well. That is why my standardized test scores are so low. For AP exams I have gotten mostly 3´s. And I applied to engineering at UNC Charlotte and got in. Should I look more into that?
There are lots of different science majors atNCSU where you’d have a better chance with that SAT score than engineering. Check out their website. What did you put as your 2nd choice major?
If you do well in classes but not standardized testing, you can definitely go from Exploratory Studies to Engineering at State if you want to. You will need to try and get all A’s in the CODA classes (Calc 1, Calc 2, Physics 1 with Calc, Chem 1) and have a high regular GPA. I would suggest you retake Calc 1 at State so you get an A unless you get a 5 on the AP Calc AB test if you decide to go. You should get accepted into Expl. Studies but FYE, would be more of a stretch.
