<p>I go to a school where most kids score in the 1100-1500 range on the SAT, so I also took it upon myself to make a group on Facebook where I upload SAT content that can be downloaded and read. Yes, I'm no expert, and I cant coach anyone to a 2400, but I know I can get people out of the 1500s.</p>

<p>Now, this last one. I don't know if it's an extra curricular, a hook, or whatever. But here's the deal. If you give me a word, I can mentally alphabetize the letters in it with great speed. For example:</p>

<p>TONIGHT = GHINOTT
CONFIDENTIAL = ACDEFIILNNOT
PREPARATION = AAEINOPPRRT</p>

<p>I looked around the internet briefly, and from what I can see, only a few other people can do this. I may be onto something here, lol</p>

<p>I'm also a legacy applicant. My mother's aunt went there. A teacher who went to NYU is also writing a letter of recommendation for me. Lastly, I'm friends with someone who has a direct connection to the President of NYU. These should improve my chances, right?</p>

<p>I know my GPA and test scores are low, but I can only look forward from here, though. I just took my third SAT and I'm waiting for that score. I'll probably take it a fourth time.</p>

<p>I spoke with my guidance counselor, and she said any relative counts. My connection to the President of NYU agreed to put some good word in about me to him. </p>

<p>For safeties, I was thinking;</p>

<p>SUNY Binghampton, SUNY Oswego, and Pace. I don’t know, really. Came up with that list just off the top of my head. I’ve never given safeties much thought. Think you guys can help me come up with a list of good schools for me? I plan on majoring in either Finance or Economics. </p>

<p>I also forgot to put above that I’ve competed in several oratorical competitions. One of them was the Ameican Legion Constitutional Oratorical, of which I was a preliminary winner. The other was that of the Theodore Roosevelt Association, which I was a finalist.</p>

<p>Your mother’s aunt does not make you a legacy student. </p>

<p>The average GPA at NYU is 3.7, yours is 3.0; your SAT is below the lowest 25% of the school. Your stats are even lower when compared to UM. </p>

<p>UM and NYU are simply unrealistic schools. They aren’t reaches, they would both fall in super super reaches. I wouldn’t discourage you from applying, but merely warn that you should not get your hopes up for either school.</p>

<p>Yeah NYU and Michigan are out of your reach. Just get your SATs up, and I am certain you will get into a good school. Good luck!</p>

<p>I’m guessing you’re from NY state, correct? Do you know how much UM costs for out-of-state students? Do you know how much NYU costs for everyone? Remember that your choices have to be viable ones financially, too. Have you talked with your parents about what they can afford?</p>

<p>@sally305 - Yes, I am fully aware of the costs. My parents can afford whatever. I am also from New York State.</p>

<p>Would any of you be so kind as to help me come up with a list of schools that are realistic for me?</p>

<p>What type of school are you looking for? What are you wanting to study? What geographical area do you prefer, if any? etc.?</p>

<p>I don’t think the geographical will bother me much, but I like cities a lot (Boston, NYC). I’m looking to study either finance or economics.</p>

<p>Schools that come to mind: PACE, CUNY, PhilaU</p>

<p>Fordham is also a good option</p>

<p>How’s SUNY Binghamton sound?</p>

<p>Binghamton and Fordham are not safeties for B students. Fordham, maybe with top of the line high school curriculum taken and higher SATs than you are sporting or with some legacy or other connection, is a match, but no way is it a safety. My cousin’s so was not accepted along with a good friend of mine’s D with higher SATs and higher GPAs. SUNY Binghamton is no easy school for admittance either. </p>

<p>PACE, , Manhattan College, Manhattanville, Wagner, St John’s, Hofstra, Iona are some schools close to NYC to consider where you would have a good chance of admissions. SUNY Oswego might also be–I haven’t checked out the numbers there so I’m just guessing. </p>

<p>There is a program at NYU that is special admissons and takes 6 years that I’ve heard of that might take you or their general studies, also a particular school, and you might want to get information for those venues where it might be possible to gain admittance. But straight out NYU acceptance with your stats is slim.</p>

<p>For me, “reach” is the lowest rating a school can get, regardless of reachability. So NYU and UMI are reaches all right but nigh unreachable, while Villanova is reachable.</p>
