I'm from a very well-known public school in NJ (ranked #3 in the state) and I have a series of good activities, including captain of the debate team, a finalist at several international violin competitions, and most notably a book I wrote and published on political theory, and a summer job on the Obama campaign.

those ECs are impressive but could you name specifically which “international violin competitions” and your book title? do you have an Amazon link?
and if you’re applying now and the obama campaign was nearly three years ago then were you 15 when you were interning? that’s incredible.
if you’re ECs are verifiable i think yeah you’d definitely make it, no sweat. go for ED.

The title of my book is “Treatise in Defense of Liberalism: A young person argues for Progressivism in the 21st century”. And there is no Amazon link yet because the publisher is still in the process of printing and distributing the books (I own the first 25 printed copies, and i’ll be sending a copy to NYU).

I worked on the Obama campaign this summer in Iowa (the 2012 campaign is now well under way).

Thanks for the response Avtrox, and do you think I could still make it RD?

lol sorry about the sarcasm then, didn’t know the second term campaign was already up
i think you’d make it, every year at least 3 people from our school (graduating class is always about 120) get into NYU and i personally know one who got in last year and your SAT score and ECs are better than his were. (Granted, NYU does seem to give internationals a preference, nevertheless)

your GPA is a bit worrying but if you have good essays and awesome letters i think you’d be fine:) maybe you could get one of your internship supervisors to write a short letter for you
good luck:)

Your GPA and SAT score is a bit… lackluster for political science (which is an incredibly impacted major.) But, your ECs really set you apart because you show a heavy passion for polisci. I think your ECs SHOULD get you in. I would really focus your essays on your interning.

Good luck! I am applying also. Which school do you plan on applying to? I plan on applying to CAS and hopefully get GSP’d/LSP’d
If you plan on applying to Stern I don’t think you have a really good chance but def. have a chance if you plan on applying to the music/art school.

I think your chance really depends on which department you are applying to.
I know two people with similar stats and one applied for Stern and the other CAS.
The one got into CAS (it might have been lsp) and the other didn’t get into Stern.

Im just a student so I cant tell you exact chances, but I think EDing will increase chances a lot. Your ecs are unique. So if i were you and if theres no any financial issue, I would go for ED at NYU.
