Please chance me for this! Thank you guys once again!

I obviously can’t offer much insight into stern (tried and failed with another poster), but you’re almost the same age as me so I just have to ask. Where in malaysia did you go?? GIS?

hey sixela, i went to sri cempaka then sri KDU both are private but not international schools like GIS. im currently doing my senior high school year in melbourne.

Sorry to break it to you, but your background isn’t that diverse. Stern has a ton of international students mostly coming from East/Southeast Asia, so it’s going to be hard for you to differentiate yourself. For an international student, you will need to focus on getting better standardized scores. Stern doesn’t look at the writing section of your SAT, so you should be scoring higher on Math and Critical Reading. If you really want to get in, you should apply early decision; if not, it’ll be a crapshoot.

^Stern has started to look at the writing section this year, although they don’t weight it as heavily as the CR and Math portions.

I’d say you’re on track… but you’re no shoo-in by any means. Internationals compete in a smaller pool and need to stand out more to gain admission. Also, are you full pay? NYU is need-aware for international applicants, which means that your ability to pay will affect your admissions decision.

Also, you won’t be able to minor in Int’l Relations. The full list of CAS minors is at http://www.stern.nyu.edu/UC/NewStudents/Freshmen/BusinessProgram/Minors/index.htm

P.S. I hope you have visited NYU before/intend to… it’s not your usual type of school. I thought it was going to be like “OMG THERE’S TIME SQUARE OMG I’M IN NEW YORK!!!111!!! BRIGHT CITY BRIGHT LIGHTS” when I visited, but that wasn’t the case. I still loved it though.

hey guys thanks for the advice, im planning to visit NYU in april. and yes i plan to pay full for my tuition fees. i guess intl relations would come under the politics minor? any other advice as to what i should do to increase my chances of getting in other than improving sat scores? thanks!

Weijiat, that’s even more interesting, I lived just down the street from Sri cempaka!
Sorry, I get excited over the little things…:stuck_out_tongue:
Best of luck to you!

I have to disagree with you justspice. I called NYU Admissions and asked them if internationals compete in a different pool of applicants (i.e. Internationals are considered differently than domestic applicants) and they said NO. Domestic and International applicants compete in the same applicant pool.
