I plan to do a lot more volunteering this summer and maybe interning. i want to get into investment banking. i know the SATs and GPA are estimates but i think i can achieve this with hard work. i plan to take a total of 4 or 5 APs by graduation. I want a finance major and will also add more leadership roles.

Hooks: first generation college student
income > 250k

Chance me for:
NYU Stern (ED)
Upenn Wharton
Carengie Mellon Tepper
Umass Isenberg
stanford business
cornell business
BC carroll

Does anyone know anymore east coast business schools that are decent and could act as low matches or safeties?? THANK YOU!!!

As a freshman I may not have that much experience, but in my personal opinion you could use some extra time volunteering. Although your course load isn’t very rigorous I think self studying the easier APs (if you have time of course) like AP pysch and environmental can help. Not sure about east coast business schools, but Emory law is supposedly “safer” and still pretty decent. (:

@escapade‌ thanks for the response! i agree and i will do more volunteering also i still have 2 full summers to beef up the resume. i also plan to self study AP macro and AP micro. do you think i need anymore business related ECs or leadership roles. if so, any suggestions? would you stern is a high match for me now or low reach?? thanks!

It’s interesting how you are a first generation college student with an income of over 250,000. Did you mean a first generation college student in the US or is my understanding wrong?

Anyway, you need a harder course rigor. The first thing that colleges look at is your transcript. Self-study for AP’s or do something to show that you are academically prepared. Good luck.

May I ask how you started your own parking lot business? It sounds interesting :)

@Hawkace‌ i plan on self studying AP macro and AP micro and possibly aa 3rd Ap. i know my course rigor isnt very good but hopefully i can make up for that by my strong interest in investments and finance aand good ECs, SAT, GPA. any other suggestions? thank you ;)

@rstein3‌ i just hold up a sign outside of my drive way since we live neaar the football stadium and theres no parking near it so people have to park miles away and walk. and people are willing to pay $25/spot and i usually get about 4 or 5 car to fit in the driveway per game times about 6 or 7 home games is over $800 and some seasons over $1,000. thank you for asking!

Literally every school for you is a reach. You’re a fantastic, competitive applicant, but those said schools want the cream of the cream of the cream of the crop.
Here are a few things you can do to help your chances:

 1. Self study as many AP’s as you can in order to level the playing field with kids from other schools. There are kids in SoCal (myself included) that come out with 16 AP’s by the time they graduate… Having 4-5 is great for some schools, but for these schools, it’s pretty lame.— Since you’re taking regular biology next year, why not study for AP Biology? The test isn’t all too bad and without studying, I was able to pull a 4. Also, if you’re a good essay writer, and you know how to do well on hard multiple choice english passages (think of SAT reading on steroids), then take the AP Lang. Composition test. Imho, it’s extremely easy and requires barely any studying. Finally, look to better your math skills by taking maths that are applicable to finance strategies such as Discrete maths, integral calculus, statistics, and finance.

Just by doing those things, you’ll have increased your chances ten-fold as your school doesn’t offer the courses and this shows as a sign of self determination which I’m sure you have!

Take SAT subject tests. Just 10-15 hours of self study is enough to ensure 700+ scores for most bright students. It sets you apart from people competing with you.

Enjoy life and pick up on as many experiences as you can. Colleges want kids who have an eclectic range of experiences and can craft those experiences into amazing essays.

Good luck with everything!

Remember that what every one is saying is not concrete or 100% right so I think that you are just stressing yourself out!! Let go, you’re almost there :)

@rstein3 thank you!!

I’m not too familiar with these schools.
I think you can get into stern on ED.
Carnegie mellon is probably a high match or low reach.
upenn and stanford is definitely a reach I think. Cornell is probably high match/low reach.
