I'm really nervous because I know there are a lot of male asians applying with really impressive applications. Do I have a shot at getting into any of my top choices?

I’m surprised that Columbia and Chicago deferred you - at least one of them should have accepted you based on your stats. Perhaps your essays weren’t too compelling. Either way, rest assured you’ll get into at least a third of your top choices.

@GodMode Thanks. I’m worried about my essays too. The UChicago essays were really hard but I spent around 20 hours on each of them. I was really disappointed to get deferred from both.

bumping also I’m applying to schools not on my top choices list and I don’t think I’m applying to every school on my top choice list unless people think it’s a match/high match for me

also should I add these to my ECs?

Made 77,000 USD in the stock market since Freshmen year (started with 35,000 and now my portfolio is 112,000+)
I have a pending patent for a wireless charging implementation in lithium polymer batteries.

@Musktard dont mention the pending patent, only mention it if u have already received it.
mention that u made money in the stock market, it shows ur ability and maturity that u were able to actually trade and make money (lots of adults loose money here , so it would be an added benefit)

@thekoolkid aight sounds solid. The market is really up right now so making money there isn’t uncommon but it will probably look better than most of my other ECs.

When you say you have a patent pending, is that completely unknown (you filed the application but it is not examined yet), or have you already received an Office Action indicating your claims recite allowable subject matter? If the latter, then it is worth mentioning even if no patent has issued yet.

I honestly don’t know how you got deferred. EA must be really tough at those schools.

As for the Ivies, I see you getting into the lower ones (Penn) also Duke, Washington U. The higher ones will be more tough, but I can see you getting into some of them, at least. They’re really just a crapshoot, even if you’re applying as the President of the United States. I will say that this is probably one of the most glimmering stat lists I’ve seen on this site, and I really think you have a great shot at any school you want to go to. And worst case scenario, you’ve already gotten into an incredible school (UMich) that I myself would be very proud to attend.

Good luck and God bless! I think you have a very good shot. Happy holidays to you, as well!

HYSWharton = long shot. Given that you’re from Peddie, I don’t know about Princeton.
UChicago and Wash U will probably end up waitlisting you.
Strong candidate for Northwestern, Duke and Columbia.
You’re probably in at Georgetown and Stern.

Holy crap, I hope you get accepted. If everything you’ve listed is %100 true, I can’t imagine why a college WOULDN’T want you. Maybe if you can emphasize in your essays how you would be able to contribute to the school more…

@MBVLoveless Any reason why Peddie would hurt my chances at HYS or Wharton? jc

@LifeLender Thanks but I think there are a lot of competitive candidates this year. I suppose I could have done more ECs or scored higher on the SAT.

@Musktard
no, why would a college take a 2390 over a 2360? Ok, a 2400 IS kinda delicious-looking, but your is already beautiful as it is.

i’m getting the feeling that you aren’t telling the colleges how much you actually WANT these schools with your essays. let them know that you’re someone who will really add to the school! kiss up to them! (but not too obnoxiously)

@MBVLoveless Oh sorry. I misread your comment. Well, Peddie doesn’t have a very good relationship with Princeton so I doubt it will help. Anything I can change to make HYPSW more reasonable reaches?
