thatsthekey: Do you like the nursing program at Rutgers??? What is your schedule like?? Do you have time for a social life??? What is your favorite thing about Rutgers Nursing??? Thank you for your help!!! I really appreciate it!!!

I’m sure there are more traditional nursing students on here to give better examples of classes/schedules, but I’ll do what I can! As a transfer, my experience is slightly different because I came into rutgers having already completed some of the requirements (some of the gen eds and sciences - anatomy/phys, microbio), but the classes I’ve taken here have been great!

If you enjoy science, you’ll have no problem doing well in those classes. You’ll hear scary things about a&p, but it’s intense because it’s the whole foundation of the program! A lot of people complain about the professor (Uzwiak), but I’ve heard that he’s brilliant and it’s very possible to do well.

With regards to social life - it varies for every person, honestly. If you’re disciplined and figure out a way to balance your time early on, you’ll have no problem, especially as a freshman/sophomore because half of your classes will be general education classes (writing, anthropology, technology, etc) which won’t be as demanding as your core nursing classes. YOU WILL STUDY! This is not a major where you can just go to class and take the test. Everything is designed to prepare you for the NCLEX so the tests are made in the same form. You’re obviously already a good student, so I don’t think you’d have a problem having a social life!

I really really love the nursing program here. There are, of course, the random issues of difficult professors and last minute changes, but they exist every where and flexibility is crucial in nursing. Maybe they are testing this?! haha I’ve loved the majority of the professors I’ve had here so far and there is a great sense of accomplishment because it’s such a competitive program. Also, the deans office is so incredibly helpful…even before I got in, they were letting me take some of the classes and told me exactly what to do to get in. It feels like a family, really. Rutgers is so big, but the nursing school is small and we all struggle together! haha

I hope that answers some things…let me know if you want anything more specific. I know the curriculum pretty well even though I took some of the classes elsewhere.

thatsthekey: Thank you so much!!! That info was very helpful!!! I just have one more question…I know that you do not know all that much about freshman admissions, but do you think that my math sat score will hold me back from getting admitted into the nursing program? I am working on improving it, but it doesn’t look like its going far…

just in case you did not see my post on your other forum:

i don’t have an account for cc and i usually don’t bother making posts but this one i felt compelled to do so. i was just recently waitlisted at rutgers nursing with a 1990 sat score. ive taken 5 APS up to senior year (considered a heavy course load at my school), top 5% of my class and many leadership positions. ive also been working every weekend since freshman year. this came as a huge surprise to me and my family
