Alright well I would say you’re in at USC and either Cal or UCLA. It’s hard to say if you would get into both, but you have a solid enough shot.

Stanford is a big reach.
Cal-Tech is a big reach.

These are both major reaches because of your EC’s. These are universities, especially Stanford, that place a great deal of emphasis on having a major passion for an activity or subject. Right killer essays about something that you can prove you are intensely passionate about, and again you will have a solid shot.

Hopefully I’ll see you next year at one of those UC’s. Good luck!

I’d personally say:
USC: in.
LA: out
CAL: in
Caltech: out.

I’d say you’re almost guaranteed at USC, above decent shot at LA/Cal (I think you’ll get one), and Caltech is a definite reach.

edit Sorry, didn’t see Stanford. I’d say out almost for sure, Stanford is the most holistic of the bunch and definitely requires superstar ec’s.

LOL @ ur school choices. tru desi thru and thru. that said:

if you r a girl, u have a decent chance at Caltech. Caltech really wants girls to attend due to their sad male:female ratio, and if u highlight ur interest in your essay and stand out from their standard rubik’s cube-twisting applicant…

as for UCLA and UC Berkeley are u ELC? If u r ELC, I would say u have a 70-75% chance at both schools. If not 40-50% chance (it varies).

also majors sometimes make a difference, esp. @ Berkeley.

I would have said USC fosho, except that around 30 asian ppl applied from my school (not me tho) and around 60+ ppl from our neighboring school. applicant pool is definitely bigger this year.

stanford screws over hella ppl so unless ur dad is the CEO of infosys and donated $5 million…srsly tho stanford is all about: Sports, extra-curriculars, competitions;

If u went to USAMO, Biology Olympiad, Siemens, Intel, etc etc. or play a state level sport (and have a 3.7+) stanford becomes likely.

Thanks for all the chancing so far! Would appreciate any more i got. And regarding the EC’s, what should a person like me(who doesn’t really have time/money to particpate in many outside activites) have done in order to have a better chance at UCLA/UC Berkley. I know Stanfords and Cal-tech are kind out of reach, just trying to see what you guys think. Again, thanks for the chancing so far.

Bump. Just looking for an answer to the question from my previous post. My bro is one yr behind me with similar grades, so some suggestions could help him. Thanks.

Stanford and CalTech will be very hard to get into.

For caltech if you won any awards at your science thing that would help. You can also consider retaking your SATs to get a 2200-2300+ or taking the ACT and getting a 34ish.
