Universities that I tend to apply to:
Stanford
NYU - scholarship?
Berkeley
UCLA
Princeton
Northwestern
Columbia
USC - scholarship?
Chicago
Brown
Cornell
Yale

In my senior year, I will be experimenting some activities that are new to me: I'm apart of school's new drama production, "how to succeed in highschool without really trying", as an actor; I will be joining the school's basketball team, and the tennis team that is new this year.

My common application essays were really good as it took me two months to finish them after countless edittings. Also, I hope my diverse background (Asian born in New Zealand, then moved to Hong Kong, Singapore, and China) could serve me as an advantage; i can also speak fluent english, chinese, and cantonese (another version of Chinese used in Hong Kong), now picking up Spanish 1 in my senior year.

Thank you, please chance me as I'm a bit confused about my chances at the schools I plan to apply to.

Best,
Andrew

Woah you were active. But right now your ECs kind of read like a grocery list. I think you should cut some out to show only the ones that you really cared about and put time into. First to go should be Environmental Club. Only one year and not much time spent per week, and it doesn’t seem to be an interest of yours judging by your other activities.

Your volunteer work is great, and if you can find a way to write about that more in your application then I think you should.

Stanford-- High reach (It is for almost everyone)
NYU-- In
Berkeley- Low reach
Princeton-- Reach
Columbia-- Reach
Brown-- Low reach
Cornell-- Low reach
Yale-- High reach

You’re applying to a lot of schools that are reach schools for pretty much anyone, it’s not that you aren’t a great student. You should definitely look into more safeties. Good luck, you do seem ambitious and I hope you get in where you want to. (:

Thanks for chancing me :)

Your stats are great dude, good work.

Stanford-High Reach (can’t not be)
NYU- In for sure
Berkeley-Reach (would be match if you were in state)
Princeton-Reach
Columbia-Well I know most people would say reach but last year 3 of my friends applied with lower stats than yours and all got in, so I’d say high match
Brown and Cornell-Low Reach
USC-match
yale-Reach

Not too sure about the scholarships though

HYPS - reach for anyone, but you’ve got a shot
NYU - In, definitely
Berkeley - high match
Columbia, Brown, Cornell - low reach
USC - match

best of luck!

Thank you all!
More people please? :)

You do have a good chance at Berkeley.

Stanford- no way
NYU - scholarship?- probabaly
Berkeley- match
UCLA- of course
Princeton- have a chance
Northwestern- have a chance
Columbia- high
USC - scholarship?- probabaly
Chicago- sure
Brown- sure
Cornell- DUH
Yale- high

Brown sure? These responses are I’m sure meant to be helpful, but at a school accepting under 9% of applicants, I’m not sure it is.

First, I want to address the issue of an NYU scholarship. NYU gives fees much money. As the unfortunately get huge numbers of overwhelmingly excellent Chinese applicants, that one will be hard.

I think it would be a great idea here to add some schools that are not the typical suspects, getting many applicants who are very similar, but maybe with higher rank/scores. Don’t get me wrong, you have a shot at the top schools, but you are in a very competitive crowd.
