Please chance me for the University of Michigan :)

Hello everyone,

As my senior year of high school approaches, I am starting to look into many colleges, and I happened to fall in love with the University of Michigan. I was just wondering how my chances are of getting accepted...

My College Resume:

Last spring I hosted a foreign exchange student for two weeks. I completed the exchange and visited Lyon and Paris this past summer.

Currently, I have about 37 volunteer hours: Working in my schools library, Make A Wish Foundation, tutoring, and musical community service. I am currently volunteering often at my local hospital, and will continue to participate in the various volunteer opportunities found throughout my school this year.

My weighted GPA is currently a 4.04-4.02. I am constantly trying to improve upon my present standing.

I have yet to take my ACT. I would be satisfied with a 27, as I am not the best tester, but I will always try to receive the highest possible score and send that in as a supplement to my college application.

I am a white male that would be majoring in some sort of science (molecular genetics, molecular biology, etc.) for the pre-medical track, as I eventually want to be a cardio-thoracic surgeon.

Thank you very much in advance for answering my question. I greatly appreciate it :)

I live in Ann Arbor, and I think you have a pretty good chance. If anything is going to hold you back, it’s probably your scores and grades, but you already know that.

I just calculated you unweighted GPA to be a 3.59. That along with a 27 ACT might be too low for UMich, unfortunately. I would work on getting that ACT to 30+ and your chances will improve a lot. I think your ECs are good though, and Umich also cares about essays/recs, so you’ll still definitely have a shot. Can you please chance me back? My thread should still be on the first page. Thanks!

My thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1372710-chance-me-emory-ed-1-please-recommend-other-schools.html

I read an article that said that UMich no longer recalculates grade point averages.

Wouldn’t you say that my plentiful amount of extracurricular activities and leadership positions makes up for my decent grades? I know that I don’t have “straight valedictorian A’s”, but I really feel as if I bring a lot to the table because UMich is an art/science school (as it seems), and I am involved in both of those things. Besides, my grades/classrank/gpa aren’t even that bad. Also, I am getting 5 recommendation letters; science teacher, math teacher, french teacher, theatre teacher, and my english teacher. My math teacher actually attended UMich.

Anyone else?? :)
