I’ve seen the average gpa and sat online, but taking the extracurricular into account as well, can I make it? My Lang teacher was also my tennis coach and I’ll have a great recommendation from him, and I’m a decent writer when it comes to essays.
Thanks!
From what I’ve seen and what I know, 1st you have to have a certain score to even get the Honors College supplement on the application. So if you don’t have that supplement on your application then you cannot by any means get in.
If you have that option on the application then I doubt you will get in, I hate to say it.They seem very stats oriented and your gpa is very low for them. Your test scores are good but their average gpa is a 4.6 something on the SC scale. That’s about 3.8+ on the 4.0 scale. The honors college is highly selective.
Most of these students qualify for the state awards specifically Palmetto Fellows so you know it’s going to be extremely competitive and hard to get into.
@Chopinspiano You’re right, the disparity between my SAT and GPA screams laziness. However, I explained it as a result of concentration on extra curricular activities in the personal statement, which is very true. I qualify for Palmetto Fellows. The supplement has showed up for me. Do you think I have a chance? I’ve taken 14 aps after this year… And my school is notoriously tough. We grade on the same scale as honors, so my 4.311 is under their average of 4.6 by .3. Thanks for responding, let me know what you think!
From what I’ve seen from past applicants, our current class of 2016, and have heard from teachers and reps from the honors college, it depends on the year. My current high school has at least 10 people applying for the honors college and on paper their stats are better than yours or similar So the only way you can differentiate yourself and stand a good chance of getting in is by writing killer essays. I’m not trying to scare you, I just want you to be realistic about this. The honors college is hard to get into some years and easy for other years. I feel like this will be an extremely competitive year.
The essays are VERY important. I know of kids with the same stats, from the same school and took very similar classes and one got in and the other didn’t.
