Please chance me for top LACs and Ivies!! I'll chance back immediately!!!

My parents and I immigrated to the US when I was about 1 1/2 years old. By the time I was 3, I overstayed my visa, so I'm undocumented. I found out when I was trying to get docs for a learner's permit.

I've lived here all my life and I definitely plan on going to college this year. Is this going to kill me in the admissions process, especially because I'm really poor and need A LOT of financial aid.

Here are my stats:
SAT: 740 CR 710 M 800 W (2250)
SATII: USH 760 World 720 Math1 690 (EW) (I took lit and math1, scores back in a week)
AP: World Hist - 5, Psych - 5, US History - 5, Eng Lit - 4
Pending/Current (all Aps): Calc, Spanish, Environmental Science, American Gov, English
GPA: 4.19 W 3.97 UW
Rank: Top 2% 14/600

ECs: average/low-ish :/
many school awards
and a couple of national awards (for academics, like being recognized for the National Achievement Scholarship-PSAT).
I'm in a few of the National Honor Socities,
Model UN, school newspaper, volunteered with health department and coordinated outreach and stuff, etc.
I'm the president of one club

Essays: Probably good, I write well
Recs: 1 average, 1 outstanding
"Hooks": URM, 1st Generation to go to college, Female? :P

These are schools I'm looking at:
U of Chicago
Cornell
Dartmouth
Amherst
Wesleyan
Oberlin
Bryn Mawr
William and Mary
Virginia Tech
Drexel
Hofstra

Thanks in advance guys, and don't forget to leave a link if you want me to chance you

Your grades and test scores are excellent! Are you latino? Have you thought about seeking amnesty?

No, I’m not latino, I’m African-American (I’m from Eritrea). And I applied for Deferred action, so I can get a work permit and drivers licence in a couple months! It’s not technically a visa or green card or anything, but it’s a step.

You have a great shot at all, Cornell seems like a match for you, Dartmouth is a high match/low reach, and all others sort of fit into that frame of reference, (I mean, you’re an illegal immigrant black girl with a 2250, you’ll fare just fine). http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1428626-northwestern-ed-applicant-chances.html</a> chance back?

Your ethnicity, unique background, and first generation status give you an enormous boost in the admissions game. It’s okay if yours ECs are average (play up any leadership in your app if you can); your test scores and grades prove you are a capable scholar. I sense that you will go places!! All the schools you listed you can get into. Dartmouth and Amherst are probably the greatest reaches of that list, followed by Uchicago. But I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into most of those schools you listed. Good luck!

Your transcript in general is pretty impressive and you should be able to get into Oberlin, Bryn Mawr, W&M, VT, Drexel, and Hofstra easily. As for Amherst, Wesleyan and Cornell, it is probably likely. UChicago and Dartmouth may be a small reach but attainable. Good luck!

you should have awesome chances at all of them if you ask me! The only schools that maybe a reach would be Cornell and U Chicago. I think you’re in great shape though. Chance me back please?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1428690-chances-wharton-huntsman-program-upenn.html</a></p>

Thanks for the chances, but I’m almost positive that being undocumented is actually a negative since they MIGHT classify me as an international.

also could i have a chance back? thank you!

yup just did  any other chances?

You have solid academics, great hooks and a compelling background. Focus on letting this background shine through in your essays and the adversities you have had to overcome to get to where you are. I think you have excellent chances at most of your schools. But apply to as many schools as you can (you can request a fee waiver) because admissions are hopelessly unpredictable.

Yeah I’m thinking about that, but I can only get up to 4, so I think I’ll do the schools with the most expensive app fees lol. And I’ve narrowed it down to those 11. I only have 3 actual safeties (the last 3), so I hope I’ll get into some of the reaches…

Any other chances? I’ll Chance back!!! :)

bummmppppppp

Very cool story, which colleges will love. Cornell and Dartmouth are unpredictable, but with your uniqueness and strong scores and academics I think you’re a competitive candidate. I would bet on you for getting in to an awesome school!
Best of luck.

Chance me back? :)

You have a really good shot at the colleges on your list! I mean you are African, First generation, and AMAZING SAT AND GPA!!! Also make sure you have a bit more community service, but i think you will get into atleast 1 of your reach/matches! Best of luck to you! Chance me back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1431003-chance-me-top-schools-i-chance-back.html</a></p>

I think you have a good shot at all the colleges! You got this. Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1431373-chance-top-schools.html</a></p>

Since you’re worried about being considered an international, I would just neglect to mention that in your apps unless you have a very cool essay to write about it. Just the fact that you’re eritrean (!!!) with very good objective stats will help.

Since you’re a black female, I would recommend applying to the top engineering schools, if you are interested. There is a severe shortage of both groups in that field, and you’re definitely qualified enough to have a good chance.

I’d appreciate if you viewed my post. You don’t need to chance, but ideas and suggestions would be nice.

Dartmouth and Cornell are both unpredictable but I think you have a good chance since you have such great academic standing. Amherst and U Chicago might be slight reaches. GOOD LUCK!!!

chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1432356-chance-me-please-carnegie-mellon.html</a></p>

@huehuehue32

I wish I could but there are app questions that ask about citizenship and I can’t lie so they’ll most likely know. I know I probably won’t have that problem at Cornell because they said they’d read apps from Undoc students in the context of their high school and not citizenship ( huge load off my shoulders! but it IS still Cornell… haha) And I would try engineering schools but I absolutely loath math and science, even though I’m fairly good at them.

Thanks for your responses! Just chanced everyone back.

The definition of an international student varies, but I don’t think they would consider you one because you go to an American high school and you’ve lived here most of your life. Also, I don’t think being international is necessarily a bad thing in admissions for the top schools anyway. Colleges want diversity in their classes. The only time it’s a detriment is when there are many applicants from a particular region/country (the same problem American students face based on the state they are from). Just hazarding a guess, I highly doubt Eritrea is a well represented country at top American universities. Your background should be a big advantage in admissions.
