What's my chances for the business school? Also compared to harpur which one is better? I'm not the party animal and would more or less game/study in my dorm.

I’m a direct admit freshman to the business school. I had a 1170/1600 and like a 92 weighted gpa. I’m giving you a fair warning that it’s a very ****ty school and the majority of the students here are unhappy with their decision. Albany lowered their standings a lot and you can do much better than this school. Look into Binghamton or Buffalo if you’re going for a SUNY. Lol sorry to hate on Albany this whole post but I’m just letting you know.

You’ll definitely get in, and I completely disagree with phillycheese. I love UAlbany, I think it’s a great school. I know very few students who are disappointed with the decision to come here. The professors are great, the classes are informative, you’ll get a great education if you want to, if you go to class, and do work.

Albany is great with internships. The capitol region has so many opportunities it’s crazy. I’m not sure what phillycheese’s problem is, but I love UAlbany and can’t imagine going anywhere else.

I am also a direct admit from the class of 2015, and I completely agree with phillycheese. Students here are miserable, and Albany’s reputation is rapidly falling. They practically let in anyone and they let in more EOP kids every year (to get more money from the state). I will be transferring next fall to a better private school (A school that does not have money issues)
-It is not a great school for internships - Albany is not a target, so big IBs like goldman etc. won’t even bother giving you attention just because of the Albany name. If you have your mind set on finance, I would highly recommend you to take Albany off of your list.
-As for professors, there will be good and bad professors. However, many of the intro econ courses are taught by people who shouldn’t be teaching (can’t speak english and first few years teaching)

^Ronaldot is basing all of his statements on zero facts. We get no big exposure to big IBs? Me and 4 other kids from the FA program had interviews with Goldman. I’d say about half of the FA students this year had, at the very least, interviews with big banks. Once you get there, it is ALL ON YOU. All of my friends here are happy, and I think the attitude and personality Albany teaches you is something to be jealous of. Almost everyone I know trying to go into finance is smart as hell and have humble personalities, making them more desirable (in my opinion). As for the recruiting process, I can tell you right now here are some of the junior internship offers for FA: Goldman PSI; JPMorgan S&T; BofA S&T; a few PWM firms, Advisory at the Big 4, CL King Sell-side equity, AYCO. They just don’t actively recruit on campus because they already have such a great track record from great target schools. Ronaldot, don’t mislead people from a great program (assuming you will have the grades for it your jr year). Also, if you decide the accounting route, anyone who works hard will get an offer. We have a very big pipeline to the Big 4. Also, if you are into investing, we have a growing investment group and the money available for investing is getting larger by the year. We expect to have 12 fully equipped bloomberg terminals in a fully functional trading room next year (as opposed to our 1 right now) in our new business building.

I do completely agree with the Econ professor statement.

Just my $0.02. Good luck with the recruiting process.

Albany is great for accounting, but there’s still a long time before the FA program gets recognized. You’ll learn everything you need to know from FA. The only downfall is that it’s a brand new program.
