Since the adoption process takes years, she ran away to Russia to live with her grandmother…

General Comments:

By the way, I explained why my UC GPA is very low in the application. It is because of my parents… I’m gay and they’re homophobes… :frowning:

BTW I am really interested in UCSB!!

bump

you can’t make the excuse that your gpa is low because of your sexual orientation… that shouldn’t be conflicting your success in school

How will you pay for the UCs as an OOS applicant? it will run you $55k per year. Your parents will be funding this? The fees will continue to increase. There are no scholarships for nonresidents.

Your GPA is not competitive for most of the UCs.

Your age will also be a hindrance because you will not be an adult until the age of 18, so you won’t be able to sign most forms on your own.

Are there other schools in Virginia for you to consider?

Forgot to add, the most you can receive in loans, on your own will be $5500 per year. This will be wherever you go to school. If you are not 18, I don’t know if you can receive anything.

Agree with above posters. UC GPA is low and you cannot use your parents as an excuse. Only UCSC, UCR and UCM would be viable options but how will you pay with little no FA from these schools as an OOS applicant? Why California? I would stay in school, bump your grades, consider affordable options in your Home state and wait until your 18 so you can become independent from your parents

Good luck

You have a really strong ACT though and - a whole year to bring up your GPA. With a 3.7, you’d be a strong candidate for UCSC UCM and UCR. I think the others will be a stretch but, you never know.

Do your best this year and start saving your money. OOS tuition is ridiculous.

@NCalRent I want to stay another year in high school to bump up my GPA, but I can’t because of the negligence. I am being neglected by my parents. I was also abused seriously. I will explain this in my essay. My course load for my junior year will be Hell. 11 classes total. Regular schedule at my school only has 6 classes. 6 IB Classes, and 3 AP courses, the rest are regular. I really want to get into UCSB! So, do you think I have a chance? Considering I fundraiser $16,000 for African kids and taught myself Japanese?? Thanks anyway

Also, for the financial aid for UCSB. I used their calculator and they said I will probably only pay $32,000 if I get the financial aid. But I’m confused. Does that financial aid include the Stafford loans or what?? I also heard the UC’s barely give any financial aid, so why did they cut the price in half?

I am saddened to hear about your home-life. No one should have to endure that kind of treatment. Obviously, your personal safety comes first. I don’t know enough about the laws/rules in your state to offer much more advice than that.

No matter what the rules are in your state, you have to complete the A-G course matrix to be considered for a UC or CSU. An abbreviated high school career will make that difficult. See this link for the list. http://www.ucop.edu/agguide/a-g-requirements/

Since you don’t live here currently, CA won’t offer you any significant aid. I’ve heard others note the OOS premium isn’t calculated correctly on UC web sites. I would imagine you’d fare better in your home state. Why not target Virginia Tech?

You sound like a bright motivated kid who has been dealt a really crappy hand. I think you’ll find your way but, the next few years will be difficult.

I pray everything works out well
