Please Chance Me For UCLA!! please please

from the profile of admitted transfer students, 2010 for UCLA:

Biology admit rate: 17.53%
avg. gpa accepted: 3.74
about 100 units completed for those accepted.

I'm a CCC student
Biology major
3.75GPA (3.82 by the end of this fall if I keep my grades up)
No TAP/TAG
prereqs will be over 90% done by the end of Spring 2011
IGETC will be completed by theend of Spring 2011
EC's: I tutored biology and chemistry for 2 years and was a lab assistant for one semester.
I'm a decent writer...

I'm really worried about my GPA because I'm just above average but bio is an impacted major at UCLA...
also I don't have many EC's but I'll join AGS this semester and Doctors of Tomorrow as well.

Thanks!

You have a strong chance of getting in with that GPA. Your downfall is your prerequisites. UCLA is very strict about prerequisites so if you can’t complete those, your chances could be much lower. I’m not sure how lenient they are on unit heavy majors though.

Thanks rikizle!

I’ve seen alot of students from my school get into UCLA without even completely Ochem and some major prereqs- I’ve finished all the “required” prereqs, but I haven’t finished the “recommended” courses.

As for my GPA if biology is impacted I’m scared that I’ll have to get a GPA significantly higher than the average D:
soo idk ):

UCLA is too unpredictable. I think that the only thing that would stop you from being admitted was not completing all prereqs.

You’re GPA and EC’s are fine but if you can do an internship instead of AGS do that. AGS is a waste of time in my opinion.

you obviously did the research in finding admit rate. that’s the overall admit rate, you can probably research and find a more realistic chance based on gpa. i think you do this through uc stat finder, or ucla might have it posted on their website which states acceptance rates per GPA range. Obviously the closer you are to a 3.0 your chances of getting in are not around 17 percent, its most likely less, and so on for that of gpas closer to 4.0, which should probably be higher than 17 maybe in the 20s or 30s.

OP - I disagree with Imendoza, I’d join AGS, it can only help you. If you’re unit heavy 18+ you only have to complete 15 pts/hrs instead of 30. If you have over 60 transferrable units you can sign up as a Permanant Member which lets you wear a gold stole when you graduate and it will look GREAT on your app. And even if it doesn’t… gold stole when you graduate, as one of the AGS coordinators said at our meeting “your mom will be crying, even if you’re not” For me we’re able to do $5 of recycling for 1 hour of fundraising, I have to do 4 hrs of fundraising, 4 of volunteer (I volunteer at Sacred Heart in San Jose 4 hours a week ((8 hrs till school started XD)) already so one weekend will knock that out) that’s 8 of your 15 already, the other 7 you can get just going to meetings for a few weeks. Don’t underestimate the honors society, trust me, it’ll be beneficial.
