Please chance me for UCLA!

I have always wanted to go there. Becoming a nurse and getting admitted to UCLA have been my motivations throughout high school to do well. I definitely feel like I don't have a chance against other applicants that attend better high schools, have better GPA's, have more rigorous course loads, and have better EC's.

I just want to know if there is any hope for me at all.

I know some of the information I will present to you will not exactly be a deciding factor for my acceptance, but here we go:

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Filipino and Chinese

I go to an uncompetitive public high school in a small town.

I really want to major in nursing at UCLA!

CLASSES:

9th Grade -
H English
Algebra 2
Integrated Science 2 (-_-')
World Geography
Spanish 1

UW GPA = 4.0

10th Grade
AP Biology (3)
AP World History (4)
H Spanish 2
Geometry
H English
Concert Choir

UW GPA = 4.0

11th Grade
AP Chemistry (haven't taken the exam yet)
H English
H Pre-Calculus
Concert Choir
Spanish 3
Biotechnology 1

UW GPA = 4.0

And I guess colleges don't look at 12th grade classes? But here's what I signed up for:

12th Grade-
AP Calculus B/C
AP Literature and Composition
Biotechnology 2
Anatomy/Physiology
Econ/Gov (Hopefully I can take honors)
Concert Choir

*I am debating on whether or not I should take psychology instead of concert choir due to the fact that psychology would help me more for my intended future career as choir would just be a nonacademic class.

*Straight A's throughout my high school career so far, but the difficulty of my classes was not high. I am scared. My counselor messed up my schedule freshman year and I was unable to change it.

*I took all the AP classes offered at my school so far. However, next year I am only taking two out of the four AP classes that will be offered... will this affect my admittance into UCLA whatsoever?

*I am taking two college classes over summer, if that even matters...

ECS:
- Volunteer at my local hospital
-Member of Key Club since freshman year, (Secretary 11th - 12th grade)
- Member of Environmental club (10th - 11th) & 12th
- Dance instructor for children at my church (10th-11th) &12th
- Teacher for Sunday School (8th-11th) &12th
- Member of National Honor Society (10th-11th)
- Volunteer at Boys and Girls Club
- Badminton player (10th-11th)
I won the award for Most Improved player.
- Piano student since I was 7
- Piano player and singer for worship team (since 7th grade)
- Link Crew leader (student mentor)

*I am starting a medical club at my school where I will be president.

*I will be shadowing a graduate student from a University for the wellness of the Homeless, which doesn't really make sense due to the fact that I want to pursue a career with helping children.... Should I just not do the internship?

*Freshman year I only did two hours of community service, Sophomore year I only did 20, and I am trying to complete 100 hours by the end of this school year

*I want to be a pediatric nurse which is why I spend so much of my time with helping kids

What do you think my chances are of getting in?

SAT score was 2100. Should I try again? If I try again what score would be competitive?

I am planning on taking an SAT subject test in Chemistry, Physics, and American History. I hope to at least score a 750 on all of them.

Is there anything else I can do? I mean I know it's a little late and all but I just want to do anything I can.

Please chance me

Bump bump bump

Good shot. That’s an expensive school for a nursing degree, you could do it much cheaper at a CSU.

“And I guess colleges don’t look at 12th grade classes?”

No, they usually check after 1st semester.

@Waverly - Thank you for the reply! I am also considering CSU Long Beach, it’s just that UCLA has always been my dream school so I just wanted to know if I had any chance of getting accepted especially since I’m applying for an impacted major.

@AustroHungarian - Thank you also for your reply and for clarifying! I have been hearing different things. So should I take AP European History instead of choir so that they see that I took as many AP classes as I could? I won’t take AP Physics since I want to take Physics during the summer so that I can take the SAT II subject test for it in September.

Bump bump bump.

Hi Sooyoung!
I definitely think you have a good shot at getting admitted, this year they accepted 40 people and put another 40 on the waitlist should the first 40 deny admissions. I’m currently on the waitlist and I know if you email the school of nursing they can tell you exactly what is your rank on the waitlist. Hope that helps! Best of luck to you next year!

@evbeezy Thank you  and I hope you get in!

Up the SAT score. All you can really do now, you can’t really change your UC/W GPA

You have an extremely good chance right now! Great GPA and good SAT! If you want to really solidify your chances though, take the SAT again and get 2250+.

Thank you for your reply refreshe4!

GPA is solid. Difficulty of the classes are a bit lacking; considering you have taken all APs, however, UCLA will not count it against you. Consider retaking the SAT once more, or trying the ACT, a higher standardized test score can only help you, especially if you are worried your GPA will not mean as much due to easier classes. ECs are solid; not exceptional, but certainly better than most applicants. Do the internship, even if it is not exactly what you want to do. And no, the UC system does not consider your 12th grade classes; they can see what you are taking, but do not factor in your senior grades, etc. Overall, not bad for a nursing major.

Thanks for the reply latitude123!!
