Hi, I was wondering what my chances of getting accepted into UIUC Computer Science are? I’m thinking of applying for this year’s Early Action Admission. GPA (Weighted Calculated): 4.18
SAT Score: 1450 (780 M, 670 R/W)
Taking SAT Math II this weekend: expecting 730+
Course Rigor: IB Diploma Student, and will have completed 19 AP/IB courses by end of senior year. (Yes… 19 full AP/IB classes)
Residency: Georgia
I had few B’s, therefore my unweighted GPA was a 3.65. However, with my plentiful AP/IB courses it is a 4.18 Weighted GPA
CS admit rates are in 15 percent or very close, CS admissions are a crap shoot at UIUC, so many students with perfect ACT and great GPA got denied this past year. Put your best foot forward and see where it takes you, all the best!!
First, I think that your SAT score doesn’t really stand out. Look at UIUC freshman class profile. The middle 50% SAT of college of engineering is 1420-1520, and for CS it can only be higher. Considering middle 50% UNWEIGHTED GPA of college of engineering is 3.67-4.00 I think 3.65 unweighted is a bit poor. I think probably you need some extra hooks to get in.
For UIUC CS you will also need to have programming experience. The admit rate is most likely to be bit more than 10% for CS department overall (i.e. CS in Engineering and CS +X majors). However, for OOS it’s going to be lower than 10% definitely.
UIUC CS doesn’t need programming experience. But you simply are not a strong candidate.
