- I know all my recommendations are going to be very good. The teachers love me.
- In my essays I explained my situation and talked about how much I have changed. I had it checked with multiple people.

These are the Universities I want to know my chances for. In my opinion my chances are pretty low for these. Please give the realistic answer because I want to know the truth of my chances. Any advice you might have would be great and thanks.

Universities

University of Maryland College Park (In-State)

Georgia Institute of Technology

University of Michigan--Ann Arbor

Your GPA is a little low for any of those schools and your SAT scores could always be higher but they are pretty good. Your ECs are also a little on the weak side of things as you don’t have many leadership roles if any.

I am sorry to say but your chances at these schools are very low. Do remember though that this is only my opinion and by no means does it mean you won’t get in.

Here are some other schools you might want to consider that you will have an easier time getting into.

University of Delaware
Townson (also in state)
Penn State
North Carolina State

I think the schools you listed will be reaches for you. The SAT score will help, and UMD is supposed to be holistic, so that will also be good. Unfortunately my kids have been told that coming in from MD schools they expect you to have an unweighted of 3.85 (this was from the GC and principal at our school). You do have some interesting ECs and they may help. I would build some safeties into your list…UMBC, Towson and Salisbury come to mind if you want to stay in the area and keep costs down.

If you could get your guidance counselor to write a note about your poor performance in 10th grade and the reasons why, that may carry more weight than just having “your word for it.”

I agree with rhg3rd. However, you have a huge upward trend in grades so that’ll help. UMD especially is very test heavy and it looks like you’re in the upper percentiles for those (although I believe they only look at SATs out of 1600).

I think u will be accepted if you really have high or average SAT or ACT scores. Chance me!
GPA- 3.90
WEIGHTED-4.18
SAT-1070 CR/MATH
Major- aeronautical engeneering and physics
Essays, recommendations and extracurricular are good.

I agree with the others in that your GPA is a bit too low to have a reasonable shot at those schools. If its truly holistic then i can see your test scores and ECs make up for it, but its a stretch. The admissions officers may have some sympathy if you explain really well in your essay why you messed up though.

You definitely have a reasonable shot at those schools, but that sophomore year is going to hurt you. Maybe you can demonstrate your extenuating circumstances in the essay or additional comments? Best of Luck
