Please chance me for University of Michigan(EA)

Hi guys can someone chance me for University of Michigan Early Action?
I’m out of state, Asian Female, and applying for Ross
Stats
GPA(UW): 3.86/4, weighted is 4.71/5
SAT: 1450, 1490
SAT II: 780(Math 2), 750(Bio M)
AP Scores: US Gov(3), Comp Sci Principles(4), Biology(4), English Lang(4), Calc AB(5)

EC’s
Main ones are a coding club(Vice Pres), a nonprofit business for the community(cofounder), another nonprofit business to raise money to help the environment(founder and CEO), writer for an online newspaper

The rest are just honor societies(I have positions in it), and FBLA(9 overall)

I don’t really have any big awards except one state award from a coding competition

I’m really nervous about applying and would really appreciate some input. Thank you all!

I would show lots of interest (e.g. vistit if you can, meet with local Adcoms, etc.). If you are OOS it’s going to be more difficult to get into UM and specifically Ross but you have competitive stats.

What will be your home school? LSA? Engineering? Other?

OOS acceptance rate for the Class of 2022 (overall) was 19% and enrolling only 447 freshman Ross students, preferred admission to Ross from OOS will even be more difficult. Your chances for Ross will also depend heavily on your Ross portfolio and essay questions.

Your uwGPA and SAT score of 1,490 are competitive for LSA, slightly less competitive for Engineering, and Ross has even less spots for freshman.

@sushiritto
I’m planning on applying to Ross BBA(undergrad business program).
Is it possible to be accepted in LSA but not Ross if I apply to Ross initially?

Understood, but the way that Ross preferred admissions works is you will have to get accepted to your “home school” first and then Ross will evaluate your application. It’s a 2-step process. And yes, you can be accepted to your “home school,” but not Ross.

Last year was the first year for this new process. There were examples of students who were admitted to UMich and came anyway. Those that did, most planned to major in LSA Economics or get their Engineering degree, and also maybe apply for a Ross Business minor.

I would echo what was said above about showing interest. I would also suggest working on your essays and maybe try to get your SATs up. UM alone (much less Ross) should be considered a reach for all OOS applicants. I know it’s easy to fall in love with one program, but don’t forget to check out all the other great options out there.

Yes it is possible to get into LSA but not Ross.

BTW, my kid is OOS and is a Ross junior.

To fill in a bit more info for you.

You will either be admitted, deferred or rejected by your home school on or about December 18-20 (Wednesday, Thursday or Friday before Chirstmas). Ross will then send their decisions on or about the following dates (Fridays): 1/31, 2/28, 4/3 and 4/17. I’m speculating on the dates, but they’re close based on the Class of 2023.

The absolute best case scenario is you’re admitted EA in December and then subsequently admitted to Ross on or around that Friday, January 31st (2/1-ish). Of course, most EA decisions seem to be deferred into the RD round (RD decisons begin around 2/1 too) and then your Ross decision will also be delayed.

Is annoying Ross can’t evaluate applications at the same time LSA does…they seem to be the only school that has two different processes for applications…am finishing the essays this month hopefully…

50/50. You HAVE TO kill the essay

Maybe why don’t you start a thread on how to write a great essay?

Overwhelmingly. EAs get deferred. Don’t let it discourage you. I agree with the other poster that it is a reach, but you are within range and may get in if essay is great! Just be prepared to wait for a decision til regular decision dates.
