Upenn is undoubtedly my first choice college and I will apply there Early Decision. However, my test scores came in and I wasn't too content with them. Please chance me, I am very nervous and will do anything to improve my chances!! Advice and constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated.

Based on my point of view, I should retake the ACT and maybe the SAT II? Again, I will appreciate any feedback so long as it's honest. Thank you~

Retake ACT! I had a 31 on my first ACT because of a 25 science section, but I brought my science section up the next time and got a 35! you can definitely bring your scores up since you just have that one section holding you back. your stats are great, and i think you have a really good shot if you get recruited for soccer. otherwise, i think you have to improve your EC’s a little…

GPA, class rank, and rigor should help
I agree with melissa and gregb. try to notch up your act score by a bit. as for sat ii, you have plenty of time to study for hte next one. try bumping it up by 30-50 pts at least.
good luck.

oh and yeah early decision should increase your chances a lot

Your class rank/gpa is ridiculously solid… I’d say, retake the ACT and get like maybe a 34+, and get the other two of those SAT II scores above 750. EC’s are alright, nothing spectacular but you would probabbly get in on academics alone if you fixed the two.

Like everyone has stated, great ECs and Volunteer work (keep that up and you will definitely be eligible for nice scholarships). Work on bringing up your test scores, especially ACT which is quite easy to improve upon. Consider retaking SAT IIs and maybe try SAT I just to see if you do well.

your courseload is awesome! i agree that you will probably be able to raise you ACT pretty easily, and consider retaking your II’s. other than that, write some great essays and spruce up your EC’s and i think you’ve got a good shot!

you have a flawless GPA and your courseload looks rigorous to me, which is what a LOT of the Ivies look for when evaluating your transcipt. so +10 there
ouch on the 26 science ACT score, though. definitely retake either the SAT or the ACT, your scores are solid but I think you could improve them and boost your chances ED.
your ECs also seem a bit weak to me. do you have any awards, or anything that demonstrates passion for one activity? maybe its just that you didnt elaborate, but no defining activity jumps out at me…
I’d say 40% in ED at UPenn, 60% deferred, and like 30% accepted. Don’t ask me where those numbers came from, I just guesstimated GL!

You ACT scores are a bit low… Have you tried the SAT I’s because you seem to handle SAT formats well. UPenn is not SUPER selective, not like HYP, so I would think your cahnces are fair, especialyl fi u are doing ED.

Well i think the SAT I might be good, but other than that your stats are perfectly fine. Just write killer essays and id be surprised if you didnt get in

Wow, we do have similar resumes haha. The GPA is great, the ACT is pretty solid (though you should probably take it twice, a lot of schools superscore it or take them all into considerations. Though our best individual sittings were the same, I got lucky on science one time and have a superscore of 34). Course load is very impressive as well…EC’s are a little short, like what do you do after school most days?..Have you won any awards, make sure to mention those…

I agree w/ what others said except one thing: your EC is mediocre. Cmon 250 hours of volunteering as your hook? what is that 7 hours a week in the summer for 2-3 years? Almost everyone will have that much volunteer (some school force their kids to volunteer after school :)).

Actually CC’er,
Honestly, I did not have any will to apply to highly selective schools until Junior Year. I never did community service until late Junior Year when I realized how EC’s are important at the selective college leve. So actually, it’s doing 25 hours of community service a week for the whole (this) summer.
Thanks everybody for your opinions!

Your stats look pretty good. Consider retaking the ACT to bring up that science score; it’s the only thing keeping you down. Retake the SAT IIs if you really want to but your scores aren’t bad at all. You have little ECs, but if those few take up a lot of your time, be sure to mention the time and hard work you put into them to offset the apparent lack. Good luck!

If you’re good at writing essays, then you’re all set! Be sure to emphasize your ECs if they mean a lot to you (that’s your weakest point, i think)

Maybe try the SAT since I see your math, writing , and reading scores are extremely high and science is your weakest and the SAT does not have science.

Good academics, ECs are a little lacking, scores are okay (except the science ones!). Penn apparently cares a lot about personality, recs, and work experience. Probably do SAS because your science scores are not up to par for SEAS. I actually know Penn SEAS graduates who can’t find jobs, so I’m not sure how good the school is anyway…
