Hi!
I’m applying ED for University of Richmond and considering enrolling in ROTC. (Does this improve my chances of getting in???)
Both my parents have gone to college but not graduated- not sure if this makes me a first generation college student or not? My income is lower middle, and I’m a white female.
I have a 3.25 GPA weighted (yes, I know this sucks) and my ACT score is 30. These both succkkk compared to Richmond’s 50% mark (29-32 ACT score and 3.95 GPA). My GPA is low because I need to work a 25 hour week in order to support my family financially. I overloaded myself my junior year but now manage my academics better.
Academics:
I took 5 IB classes my junior year- IB Econ SL, IB HOA HL, IB English SL, IB French SL, & IB Bio HL. I got a 5 on the Econ exam. I’m taking 6 IB classes this year- IB Econ HL, IB English SL, IB French Lang/Lit, IB ESS SL, IB Topix HL, and IB Math Studies SL.
Extracurriculars:
I’m president of our young democrats chapter, an editor of the yearbook, newsletter editor of our french honor society, president of journalism honor society. I’m a member of octagon club, key club, women in politics, and a club that helps out elementary schools in the area. I participated in a global student leadership summit and designed energy saving prototypes, as well as a STEM institute where I built some 3D printers. I play field hockey, was on the swim team, and managed a soccer team. I’m also a local ambassador for the Women’s March.
Work:
I intern for a lot of local political campaigns and I was the design intern for a congressional campaign. I’ve worked at a coffee shop since my sophomore year (1.5 yrs) and got employee of the quarter last month. I also am the lead intern at a non-profit which registers high school students to vote.
I know my grades suck and there’s not much I can do now to change my GPA other than try really hard this year. I love Richmond and I would seriously do anything to go there. Do you think I have a chance???
