Please chance me for UW Honors, my DREAM/TOP CHOICE!

...I appreciate it!

Academic:
GPA: 3.83 UPWARD TREND - mediocre grades were all freshman year
Class rank: Top 20%, predicted to move up to top 10% cos it's weighted
SAT: 2040
8 IB and 4 honors classes throughout high school

Extracurriculars:
4 years of city youth council - Have gained TONS of volunteer hours (100+) with this. Did Relay for Life, serve homeless, volunteered at various community functions and events.
3 years DECA
3 years church
3 years Christian fellowship group at school

Leadership positions: only 1 significant leadership position. I head a committee on my youth council; planned benefit concerts, organized first ever teen festival in city, and 2 other large scale community projects also coming up. Though it was my only real leadership position it takes alot of work and I devote myself to it.

Awards/Honors:
DECA state qualifier sophomore year
2nd place at DECA area junior year
1rst place DECA state (state champ! whoo!); national qualifier junior year
DECA student of the month junior year

Work experience: Paid internship obtained through an organization that places teenagers in nonprofits around the Seattle area. It was competitive (they accept 20% of applicants) to obtain. I work at a community arts center assisting with summer camp and also coordinating marketing. Am currently doing this (summer 2008)

Recommendations: Will have my business teacher who has known me for 3 years write it. He writes really strong recs and can attest to my intellectual curiosity & qualities inside and out of the class.

Essays: I am a strong writer, and plan to emphasize my intellectual curiosity through them. Anyone want to read them when I'm done??

Your SAT and GPA are almost identical to my daughter's and I think she has a shot at it if she decides to apply for it. so I think you at least have a fair chance. Are you in-state? I think that would be in your favor.

Yes I'm in-state. Whoo! :)

I go to a pretty competitive public high school in western WA.

I think you have a good shot as well. I'd love to read your essay if you'll read mine =) (I'm applying for it too)

Your stats (GPA and extracurricular-wise, at least) are not too different from mine, and I got in this year. However, my essays were admittedly quite amazing, and I had a 35 ACT backing me up. Make sure your essays are really convincing (don't use something canned, really get into the special extra essay) and work on getting a better test score, maybe. Good luck, because it's a hard program to get into.

Bump!!!!!!!!

You should also keep in mind that even if you don't get into the Honors program initially, you can apply for it again once you are a UW student. My grades in high school weren't that great, but my college grades were, and they sent me a lot of messages trying to get me to apply, but I just wasn't interested.

Lummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy
Sorry, this is really odd that I identified you though.
