Essays:
Pretty good - I really liked my common app and Penn optional essay, but the optional essay was okay.
Teacher Recommendation: AP history and AP lang teacher - both amazing teachers that I was close with. Very positive but most likely generic recs.
Counselor Rec: my school is very large so writing recs for my counselors is a very systematic process. Probably a good but again generic rec.
Additional Rec: Crew Coach - crew practice is 4 days a week + all day racing on the weekends, all year round (winter indoor training). So my coach pretty much knows me inside out and I worked hard on the team, plus I've been varsity captain for 2 years. Pretty good rec I think.
Interview: Have not been contacted by regional rep yet!! (should I be concerned?)

Other

About 30-40 people apply to Penn annually and about 2-4 get accepted. This year, 40 people applied (all RD).
Ethnicity:Asian
Gender:F
Income Bracket: 60~70K

Accepted to Georgetown, UMich, UNC Chapel Hill, UMD, and deferred from MIT so far.
I did pretty well academically and was really passionate about my extracurriculars through high school but have no business extracurriculars...I'm worried that Wharton might be particular about my lack of business experience. What do you think?
Do I still have a good chance of getting in?

Wharton has stressed that it doesn’t specifically look for or prefer business ECs, so in that regard, don’t worry. As for your chances, Wharton is a top notch school and admissions are comparable in selectiveness to those of Harvard or Stanford, so no guarantees there, but you’ve got working chances, i guess.

I think you’ve got a good chance at Penn. You need to figure out who else is applying to Penn from your school…I hope your stats outrank theirs. Also, it says that “Income Bracket: 60~70K”…you definitely should’ve applied ED! Penn’s commitment to 100% demonstrated aid would’ve probably covered 95%+ of the cost of attendance for you! :)

Thank you, @Snappy and @hardworking21! I wish I had done ED now, but at the time of the application process, I was not sure I was ready to make the full commitment but after visiting Penn last month it’s really become solidified as my first choice. I can’t do anything now, but I sure will advise my junior friends to visit schools as much as possible before applying to them! Thanks again. Just a few more days till 3/29!

Good luck man. Let us know how it goes.

Ditto what Snappy said! Hope you are a member of Penn 2016!

I’ve been waitlisted, but I’m going to put my best effort into the appeal process with letters and additional recommendations! I am hoping for the best, but at this point, I think whatever happens was meant to happen. Thank you for your inputs so far! :)
