Please chance me for Williams ED!

Demographics: White upper class female from Southern California.

High school: Independent college prep school. Class size 140, doesn’t report rank. Good reputation with colleges.

GPA: 4.14 (freshman year brings it down a little, but demonstrates an upwards trend. Junior year GPA closer to 4.6)

Highest SAT: 1510 (780 EBRW, 730 M)

Subject Tests: 760 literature. I also took us history and world history but am not happy with my scores so i’m not including them on any applications (both below 700)

APs: AP World History (5), APUSH (5), AP Psychology (5). Currently taking AP Government, AP Calculus AB, APES, and AP Literature & Composition. Hoping to get 4s and 5s.

Other classes: two “accelerated” (honors) classes my junior year. All other classes were unweighted.

Extracurriculars: Varsity soccer 4 years. Mock Trial 4 Years (president this year, attorney, multiple county awards, numerous MVP awards), student ambassador 3 years (leadership position at my school), internship at local radio station, paid summer job at a restaurant, paid summer job as a camp counselor, two different service organizations (one through my school focusing on girl’s empowerment, one outside of school focusing on helping girls transition out of the foster care system), summer program studying law at Oxford University, Vice President of my school’s mental health awareness club

Intended Major: political science (pre-law track)

Other stuff: National Merit Commended Student, wrote my common app essay on my love for music, confident in my letters of rec, did a guided campus tour of Williams, not applying for financial aid

I’m planning on EDing to Williams, as I know I probably wouldn’t have a shot otherwise! Will this do anything to help my chances? I toured the campus and absolutely loved it, so a girl can dream!

As a fully qualified applicant, I’d say your chances would be at least fair, and maybe good, with an ED application. But try to act surprised if you’re accepted. Good luck.

Welcome to College Confidential, @ohwellwhatever !

Congratulations on your achievements in high school!

None of us who post on College Confidential have a crystal ball to know what the admissions officers will decide about your complete application in comparison to those of all the other ED applicants this year. We just can’t know.

That said, your statistics are typical of admitted students, and your accomplishments are lovely, so there is no reason not to apply ED.

I would recommend simultaneously applying nonrestrictive early action to a college at which you are highly likely to be admitted. Knowing you are “in” somewhere will take some of the anxiety out of the wait from December to March, if you have to wait. Of course, you may hear good news from Williams in December.

Best of luck!
