I have always wanted to go to Georgetown University! But I am not sure if I can get accepted. Please chance me.

-I am a Mexican-American male from the West side of the nation
-GPA: 3.93 unweighted (don't have a weighted GPA b/c my school doesn't have those kinds of classes)
-SAT: 1780/2400
-ACT w/ writing: 25 composite (my writing score was 09)
(I know my test scores are low, but I am hoping everything else I have will help me)

-Extracurricular activities:
Key Club member
I am a mentor at my school
Involved in a community service club
TRiO Upward Bound
National Honor Society Member
Student Council officer
Class Vice President
Class Secretary

-My school does not offer AP classes, but I am dual enrolled my local community college and have been taking a full college load for the past 2 years.
-I believe that I wrote really good admissions essays. I was definitely proud of them!
-I did not do an interview because I do not live in a town where they were having interviews. I was told students are not penalized for not having an interview.
-I also have done a lot of community service (i don't know if they look at that though).

So what do you guys think? I applied early action to Georgetown College and will find out if I got accepted in a couple of weeks. Any thoughts?

Most likely not. You will probably get deferred until April. I would focus on getting your grades up and really improving your SAT scores. You have good EC’s tho!
Are you a legacy? Because that REALLY helps.

I think that your ACT score is going to really hurt you. Your EC’s are fairly common. I think it is a very high reach for you to get in. But you never know for sure in college admissions. Good luck. :)

If I am to be COMPLETELY honest, I do not think you have a good chance for acceptance. HOWEVER, I’m not an admissions officer, and if you bring up your scores you might have a chance
The fact that you’re Mexican American helps though.:)

Hoya803, thank you for your honesty. I know my test scores aren’t great, but I am hoping Georgetown will not base my acceptance solely on that. I believe I wrote outstanding essays, and I have good grades in very rigorous classes. I also think that being a URM will help me. I am hoping that the diversity that I can bring to Georgetown will persuade them to accept me. But I guess all I can do is wait.

I think you really are a great applicant! I’m no admissions officer so I could be completely wrong. I wish you the best though and I really hope you get accepted :)

^^If you don’t get accepted it would be a good idea to take 3 subject tests. Georgetown highly recommends them and they do actually place students higher than those that haven’t taken them at all.

Thanks Hoya803! You really are helpful! Thank you for wishing me luck! I really appreciate it. Georgetown is my dream school, so I need all the support I can get!

we’re like the same! except i’m black and female haha. My SAT and ACT scores are better, but your GPA is much higher than mine. If I think that I can get in (hopefully!) so can you! Good luck!

Georgetown is one of my dream schools too (:
Anyway, your GPA is very good but your SAT and ACT really brings everything down. Your ECs are good, and your ethnicity helps too but I’m not sure if you’ll get accepted. There’s about a 5~10% chance. Don’t give up hope though!

Oh and as Hoya mentioned, taking the SAT subject would be beneficial for you, especially since Georgetown wants their applicants to have taken at least 3 to be considered competitive.
