Please chance me - great grades, tough SAT

Daughter works very hard in high school and 4.1 weighted GPA at a good “college prep” private high school. Lots of activities, volunteering, etc.

Challenge is she gets very anxious on standardized tests and got a 1300 on PSAT (math, verbal, writing total).

We’re working on test taking, anxiety, etc. but I don’t know how much higher she’ll score.

Would appreciate any opinions on:

 1. Middle Atlantic schools to consider, and

Chances of getting into some of these schools: West Chester, George Mason, Temple, Seton Hall, Catholic University, St Joes, James Madison, Drexel. University of Miami, Dickinson, U of Delaware

This is my first post - thank you for any/all opinions !!!

She has to increase that SAT score at least 300 points before considering any of these.

Perhaps the ACT is more her alley; no penalty for guessing. Pick up a practice book and see if she does any better.

Look at SAT optional schools like Bowdoin and middlebury.

Some SAT optionals to consider:

College of the Holy Cross
Hampshire College
Wheaton College (MA)
Drew University
Hobart and William Smith Colleges
Saint Lawrence University (NY)
Sarah Lawrence College
Union College (NY)
Dickinson College
Franklin and Marshall College
Muhlenberg College
Susquehanna University
Ursinus College

www.fairtest.com has the whole list.

Thanks everyone for your help !

Have "SAT optional" schools been around awhile ? Is this an increasing or decreasing trend ?

Anything "wrong" with applying without SAT scores to a SAT optional school ?

Thanks !

Increasing trend definitely.

Unless your daughter can really improve her test scores, they would only be an achilles heel for her. Take full advantage of SAT optional schools.

It's growing but can't believe any really top school is going to do it.

I would consider Bowdoin, Middlebury, Hamilton " top schools" and they are all SAT/ACT optional

Agree with momofa. Not that USNews ranks are the ultimate factor on "topness," but Bowdon is 7th, Middlebury is 5th and Hamilton is 17th...and #5 is REAL REAL good.
