Being the child of immigrants is not a hook. The only first-gen that is considered a hook is first generation attending college.

Otherwise - you’ve applied. Asking to be chanced just gets you that much more obsessed with this. There is nothing more that you can do to help yourself with Brown.

What you should do is apply and forget. Any application which you have submitted is over until you either are asked for some more material, or are notified as to whether you are accepted, deferred, or rejected. From now until then - your Brown application no longer exists. Don’t talk about it, don’t ask about it online or elsewhere, and find another place to invest your time and energy.

There is a lot you can do otherwise, like put together your applications to other colleges, do your homework, hang out with friends, or look for cute cat pictures online. Each of these is better for you than doing this.

Asking for chances after your app is in is like poking a sore tooth: it adds no new information, you still have to wait for the professional verdict, and it doesn’t get less sore.

Every time you start to fret go do something physical or do something useful for somebody else. IOW, put your nervous energy to a better use. And- stay off CC until you get your official answer (but do come back & tell us- we will either cheer for you or help you with Plan B!)

You pretty much know what your chances are. Look at the accept rate for Brown. Your GC would also have particular insight ( as his REC is an important component of your application ) as he knows who with what resume has been getting accepted to Brown from your school. You well knew and know that this is a school that rejects far more excellent candidates that it accepts.

When you apply to these highly selective schools, you can make yourself miserable looking for feedback that is useless when the only thing that matters is The acceptance. You really think everyone telling you that you have a great chance of acceptance when you do not, boosts your chances? The reason these schools are highly selective is because they reject most applicants, by pure definition.

Don’t expect to get in. That’s the safest way to handle this emotionally. Don’t fix on any one school either. Make sure you learn about all the schools that might be a good fit. Brown’s admissions have the reputation of being a bit quirky.

Why on earth would you not apply for financial aid with an $80k income bracket? Brown must meet all need. It costs about $80k/year so you have financial need almost certainly.

If you really have a family income of $80,000 per year, and if you did not apply for financial aid, then you cannot afford to attend. It does not matter whether you are accepted or not.

You might want to double check whether it is too late to apply for financial aid.
