I am a Junior in high school and i'm just wondering my chances as of right now, my stats aren't great but i still have my junior year to improve and i plan on working a LOT harder this year then i ever have.

SAT: 1900
GPA unweighted: 3.6 Weighted 3.9
Rank: 50 out of 312 (definitely plan on improving this)
Extracurriculars(will be when i graduate): 4 years of marching band(section leader), 4 years of the school musical, 4 years of concert band, concert choir, chorale, orchestra, show choir and woodwind ensemble, 2 years of jazz band, humanitarian club, earth club, mock trial, the demon press (our school paper), yearbook, and National Honors Society(hopefully next year) i have done community theater since i was 5(about 25 shows), and i have been in the Kennett Symphony Children's Chorus for 7 years.

Community service: 60 hours at a theater camp, 35 hours at a sports camp, and 20 hours at the lions club

I plan on attending a summer program for high school students at University of Pittsburgh next summer OR doing DCI (drum corps international) i'm not entirely sure yet.

Anything else you need to know, just ask!

What would my chances be for this list of schools
NYU(ED)
Emerson College (ED)
College of Charleston
Boston University
University of Pittsburgh (ED)
Flagler College
Northwestern
University of Miami
American University

I want to major in Journalism and double major in something related to film. Any other schools you would recommend?
THanks so much! I will chance you back!

I think you should retake the SAT and aim for 2000+, it would really help your chances of getting into NYU, northwestern or American. Also work on increasing your GPA.

I agree with the previous person. Also look into doing more EC’s related to journalism.

I agree with everything everybody else said. I also think you should try and increase your community service hours (at one place, currently they are sort of scattered). Rank is out of your hands, raising your GPA will probably help your rank, but others might have the same idea and it will stay the same thing (also it probably won’t change drastically before you apply).

On a side note Pitt does not have ED, they have rolling admissions. Also you can only apply ED to one school, so for that you would have to pick between NYU and Emerson.

Please chance back (I recently posted a full list of colleges I am looking at and am looking for feedback on the list).

Northwestern is a big reach. The SATs and the GPA are not up to par, but give it a try it’s up to you. NYU would probably like to see a 2000 on the sat but it won’t KILL you. The rest are matches.

I’m not sure what other Journalism related ECs i can go besides Demon pres and yearbook… any ideas?? and thank you guys!

It really can be anything and it is partially luck of landing positions/have opportunities. I can tell you I have been editor for two newsletters as well as written blog posts that appeared on two national websites. Those would both be valid possibilities. You could also try getting published in a local newspaper and/or small independent magazine. I would recommend that you also enter the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Winning a writing award (even at the regional level) would demonstrate technical skill.

Oh and I forgot to provide a link last time. Please chance me back. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1357249-what-my-chances-swarthmore.html

I agree with what Divy1234 said. Also that to try and show more passion for Journalism through your EC’s.
