Hi everyone!
so I applied to UF and I wanna know my chances. Because I’m Turkish and live in Turkey (though I’m citizen and my father is a resident of florida and I’m his dependent) I dont understand anything about the AP system so I can’t figure out my chances on my own.

I’m in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program:
Standard Levels: math, biology, social sciences
High Levels: A1 turkish, A2 English, Business&Management (and I applied to management major)
Unweighted GPA: 74/100- I think its like 3.0-3.1 over 4.0
Can you also tell me my UF GPA?
ECs:president of the Model United Nations society at my school-participated in 7 conferences- two of which as a chairman
president of the fund raising committee
have been playing piano for 9 years-participated in 7 festivals/concerts/recitals
initiated the first community service conference among the top american schools in turkey-director of the executive team
tutor public elemantary school students on English (they are native turkish speakers)
SATs: verbal:530 writing:570 math:690 toefl:95 SAT-II Math level 1: 630 level 2-640

I’m already pretty sold on going to FSU, but I decided to just take a shot and apply to UF. What do you think my chances are of getting in?:

3.3 unweighted gpa
3.9 weighted gpa
7 AP classes, 7 honors
3 years of Spanish
EC’s are pretty good, not anything to brag about
Black
Brother went to UF a few years ago, was starting MLB for the 06’ national title team
1270/1600, 1900/2400 on SAT
26 on ACT
Applied for Summer B term.

It won’t hurt to apply, but being a late applicant, I don’t think the odds are greatly in your favor. Last year my son, with a similar GPA and a 31 ACT was not accepted to UF as a late applicant (he’s white). Being black will help, but I’ve heard that its only equivalent to 1-2 ACT points (no real authority for that though – that’s just what the kids at the high school thought). I don’t know if applying for summer will help or not.

My son is at FSU now. He was late applying there too, so had to wait until the spring semester - the applicant numbers are way up the past couple of years. It’s getting more and more competitive.

Ok then, if you didn’t apply late, I’d say your odds are good. Your SAT is higher than your ACT (a 1260 is a 28, I think) so your scores are right on the money. You may even get a small bump for minority status – you don’t really need it – but it could tilt you over the edge if the admissions committee is uncertain.

You may want to petition for honors at FSU if you’re still thinking of going there.

UF looks into GPA more than SAT scores. With a good essay, you’re good to go.

The only community service hours I did were for IB stuff and I was active in 1-2 organizations at school. It does help if you’re a first generation or a minority as UF wants to expand diversity.
